Just me being a miserable bastard but I don’t like this.

Rooney has to be considered as a striker/forward. He played up top the majority of his career even though he could pop up anywhere.
Rooney then Kane, then the rest for me.

Rooney probably played a shade over half of his career games as a second striker, an attacking midfielder, on the flanks or as a central midfielder.
As an all round player I’ve never seen a better English player than Wayne Rooney but I think Kane is the better striker and suits the position more than Rooney did. I think Rooney’s best work was slightly withdrawn from the striker role and supporting the players around him.
Problem with Kane and Shearer is they made poor career choices to really seal their true value.
Rooney went to the best and you can make a clearer judgement on his ability IMO.

I agree with this just think Rooney played his best football a little more withdrawn from goal where he could impact the attacking plays a lot more. Found him to be a rabid runner, almost had a South American style of pressing and never giving up and had plenty of technique and class on the ball to match.
Rooney declined sharply but what a player he was, world class.

Think he fell down on the international stage in tournaments after his first Euros.
He really wasn’t built to lead and embrace the pressure the great players can.
No shame in that and think he probably went to a higher level than ever I thought he would.
Him and Fergie fell out over the years but Fergie wasn’t stupid enough to lose him.

I think the 2010 transfer request he put in was a ruse from Fergie to convince the Glazers to put some money into the club. But I do think him and Fergie fell out at times but his talent was so ridiculous that Fergie couldn’t bin him the way he did talents at times.
Fergie was also quick to spot his decline and probably would have been happy to let him go in 2013 when he started agitating for a move and Fergie didn’t view him as so important anymore. RVP was the main man that final season and I don’t think Fergie rewards him with a big contract if he stayed
That’s part of what made Fergie so great is he always had an eye, he could spot when someone wasn’t 100% anymore

Yeah Klinsmann then Kane. With Klinsmann the longevity argument rears its ugly head (should a footballing star shine bright then burn out, or is going on longer a sign of reputed class? It’s the age old argument)
Shearer and Rooney are better English strikers than Kane, though, no question.

Personally I think Klinsmann’s career panned out well enough up to the end of his career, I remember being envious of spurs when they bought him but then we went and bought Dennis and he stayed much longer, so fuck you spurs.
There are quite a few English striker’s i would put before Kane, mainly for the reason he’s still playing for spurs and he’s an unlikeable cunt.
