Harry Kane

Was it really the same? It always just seemed every year Vieira was flirting with leaving but it never got to the point where it seems Kane did, but maybe my memory is dull.

His brother wasn’t the agent back then.

And yet chances are they win sweet FA yet again this season where Kane again has an excellent season, they aren’t finishing top four as Nuno isn’t that good of a coach and their sqaud isn’t good enough either.

Kane wants to win NOW, Spurs have missed their window. Keeping him whilst his value decreases hurts them long term.

I’m aware, what’s clear is that his brother was involved in the decision making process more than the normal amount you’d expect from a family member

If Kane helps them get to CL next 3 seasons it was a smart move… odds are way against that and he will be worth a lot less going on 32/33.

Probably their last chance to get anything above 100 million and likely its going to be a lot less.

Its an interesting stance and on one hand you have to credit them - there is always the moral hazard of letting players go too easily who are on long-term contracts. But 150 million? For a club like Spurs who are likely competing for top 6, you have to take that.

I’d have taken the 140m, I feel like Son is the real one they can’t afford to lose.

They both are, Son will be hurt if Kane left.He should have bounced.

It’s Kane that was giving him the majority of his chances last season.

Yeh I know they link up well but honestly Son is the type of player who will always find his moment, just look at the goal he scored against us in the friendly the week before the season started, not a Kane in sight.

He’s an awesome talent and I really don’t understand why a lot of the big clubs sleep on him.

They’ll definitely go down a few levels with out Kane but it’s also a gamble how his body holds up for the next couple of years.

In no way does keeping Harry Kane hurt a team short or long term. What the fuck does 150m give you exactly. Ben white ramsdale and trippier lmao.

Levy just wants too keep Spurs up there whilst he stabilises the club and builds has a seemingly good dof in the background.

Because you’re keeping him to do what? Finish outside of the top four for the rest of his peak and then what lose him on a free?

And you can get value for that kind of money, don’t use the idiots that run this club as an example of the only way you can spend those kind of sums.

If Kane was ever going to move, this was gonna be the summer for him to do it. He’s coming off of the best season of his career. His value will never be higher than it is now.

I understand wanting to be loyal and win with your boyhood club, but going to City would have also showed his ambition to win and play in a world class team.

Unless Levy drops a major bag to support him, he will potentially end his career trophyless. I have no problem with that because it will be another laugh at Spuds but it will be sad to see one of the best strikers in league history settle for DVD’s

If arsenal had a striker that scores between 20 and 30 goals guaranteed in the league plus more in other competitions. Who could also hold the ball up play others in, who has shown to adapt. Who is 28. Who is the captain. No way in hell would I want to sell him at any price.

Especially with how broken the transfer market is now and how shite all the strikers are. You had average strikers being quoted for 90m lol. You’re not improving your squad with 150m good enough to warrant losing all that.

Their team is unbalanced, top heavy. Both the defence and midfield is not good enough and a key reason as to why they will fall short in attaining CL football.

Additionally, they have huge mounting debts. It comes to a point when you need to realise that the project has failed and you need to rebuild, keeping Kane (who doesn’t want to be there) to consistenly finish outside the top four as his vaule dwindles just isn’t a smart move long term especially when there are question marks over his fitness every season.

There are emerging strikers out there like Vlahović who could be had for a decent fee, would allow you to still be competitive and would potentially have substantial resale value down the line.

Yep - it can always go like Bale did (awful use of funds), but it can also go like Suarez did for Pool, which basically helped transform them for 5+ years (along with Klopp obviously).

This is also the best summer, really ever, to have money if you want to buy young talent. Some of the direct replacements like Lautaro and Vlahovic may not be going for bargain fees. But imagine what you could have done if you had gone into the summer planning on selling Kane for 130m. Even just working from attainable players for a club like Spurs, they probably could have had something like the following:

-Vlahovic (60)
-Malen (30)
-Moriba (10)
-Olise (10)
-Aouar (20)

That completely transforms their midfield and attack and potentially gives them a foundation for the next 6-7 years. Maybe not every one of those players chooses Spurs but there were other players just as good out there this summer.

Or it can go like it does for us where you sell a generational talent like Cesc or Rvp and don’t even have enough money to buy one Mustafi.

Arsenal!

Man fuck sale value. Keeping your best players means the most to the fans. You know how much I’d kill to see Cesc of RVP blow off big clubs and come raring to go and continue playing. Watching your star players leave is one of the most soul-destroying parts of being a fan.

Mbappe transfer makes sense now.
Madrid might have been wary of City approach

Another angle:

You reject 60m for Alexis and six months later trade him for one shitty Man U cast off and zero monies.

Got to assess each situation on its own merits really I think, there is no correct approach that fits all situations.

This is true but as a fan you also want to see the team succeed and turning down 130-150m (or whatever it was) for a 28-year-old striker with glass ankles isn’t going to help them succeed in the long term.

People really underestimate how poorly PL attackers age. Just looking at the forwards who have scored more goals than Kane in PL history…

-Shearer’s peak really ended at 26, after that he had some very good seasons but never quite hit the same heights and those very good years were mixed with a lot of poor or injury prone ones. He only hit more than 17 goals three times in the last nine seasons of his career.

-Rooney peaked as a goal scorer at 26. His last really good season was at age 28. Never scored more than 12 league goals afterward.

-Cole’s last top level season was in 1999-2000 when he was 28. Hit double figures only once afterward.

-Aguero had more longevity but his career was arguably prolonged by playing in a side that scored for fun in which he only had to be small cog by the end, and he was still done after his age 31 year.

-Titi’s last truly top level season was at 28, he wasn’t the same in that last year for us or at Barca.

People can always construct narratives about why this guy or that guy should have more longevity but those things are really hard to predict. Kane doesn’t rely so much on pace, but neither did Shearer. Or RVP, who isn’t on this list but was basically done as a top player after age 29.

In sum, odds are very high that Kane only has somewhere between 1-3 really top level years left in the tank.
