There is no good reason to actually extend him. None.
The reason to talk about it, however, is because Roma are lowballing cunts who have only bid 12m euro, we want to push them to make a serious offer so we can get somebody else in the door, but the only way to really push them is to credibly threaten to keep the player if their bid isn’t high enough. Saying we’re happy to extend him is a way to signal that we’d truly rather keep him than accept their poverty bid.

They absolutely might see through it. But its costless if they do. Its not going to make them offer less.

Although I have seen the news today, I still think (maybe hope) that this is just a tactic to get Roma to stump up the additional money to get the deal done.
I don’t want Xhaka to be at Arsenal. I want him sold. The links to Roma raised my hope that we may get rid of him this season. I didn’t think going into this season that he would be sold, but after the links it is the hope that kills you. I hope this transfer can still happen. I also think that Mourinho has made it clear that he wants him, and can’t see Roma declining his wish to sign him. This one has a few more twists and turns yet IMO!
