It’s a ruse.
Not too hurt by this. Roma have been taking the piss. They came into an agreement with Xhaka and thought we would just cave in like we did with other players.
The guy is a starter for us, why the fuck would we be doing discounts for him?
The real leverage isn’t in the new contract, though, it’s the credibility of our claim that we’re happy to keep the player. He is contracted through 2023.
I think it’s just a bluff to make our intention to keep him seem more credible.
In the end, I still strongly believe we sell him. Roma hasn’t been linked to alternatives, Mourinho clearly wants him, the player wants to go, and we’re haggling over like 4-5m euro not some insurmountable sum.
So much for his impressive Euro’s literally meaning anything
Sealed his own death warrant Arteta if this is true.
Xhaka and Lacca finish him off.
If a switched on and theoretically motivated Xhaka was good enough to cost us four points directly from his own mistakes, I wonder what a disgruntled Xhaka could cost us.
Yeh I agree we are both giving him a lot of leeway and I was genuinely hopeful for the new season - preseason shows that everyone is playing together and enjoying their football.
That all ends the minute Xhaka is back as the metronome of this team. I could abide Lacazette if he was used primarily off the bench but another season of Xhaka is the death knell for Arteta and this football club.
At least everyone who seems to think that Xhaka ain’t so bad have something to maybe look forward to.
I know this can still go through but I’m seething that we can’t dispel this fucking footballing Anti-Christ once and for all.
It would be funny if Mustafi & Xhaka both reject our contract offers
He seems to have a good relationship with Mikel so I doubt he would act unprofessional.
Although, he must still hate Arsenal fans which is worrying. Who says we won’t have another incident with fans back next season?
Will Xhaka leave?
- Yes, permanent deal
- Yes, loan with obligation to buy
- Yes, loan with option to buy
- Yes, no option to buy
- No

I’m sure the loathing is mutual. At least it is from me. He’s just been here too long and not really delivered. It’s probably a bit of Arsene not knowing what Xhaka was when we signed him and the club’s technical quality disintegrating around him. Did we ever really see a Xhaka-Cazorla midfield?
Then there are all the intangibles. His bravado, his faux macho act, yucking it up with Aliofski after the Leeds match when Pepe was sent off but being dumb enough to get sent off at Burnley. The nose picking goal. The armband incident. We all know who he is. He’s probably great in the locker room but can be a bit of an idiot.
Sometimes you just have to say that a transfer didn’t really work.
That said, he’s staying. No way the club would let him go for peanuts this late and then have to buy a replacement. Selling clubs would have us over a barrel.
Straight up depressing shit right there.
He’s not a key piece to any side wishing to win something. He’s lazy, arrogant and technically not very good. Really shocked that Arteta seems oblivious to his shortcomings, not to mention the fallout w/the fans.
I really want to back Arteta as his success is Arsenal’s success, but when he continually backs clowns like this, it makes me question whether he is fit for the job.
Xhaka will lose a team many more points w/his ability to go full retard at any moment much more than he will help a team gain points. Guy is a liability and a fraud of a tough guy act. Ridiculous this phony has ever been a captain.
Not bothered by this news. I think he’ll leave before the transfer window, maybe on deadline day, for a loan or something ridiculous like that. Just the way we do things.
ALOT needs to happen in the next 31 days in and out. You think the club can handle it?
This is where the market heats up right?
I don’t think he’ll leave. He’s played well recently but his history of errors makes him unsaleable at the valuation the club need/want to place on him.
I’m nervous that if they give him a lucrative new contract that we’ll see the old error strewn donkey return.
As long as he’s playing for a new contract he’ll probably keep his recent better form going.
Don’t think he’s either a PL or CL winning midfielder anytime soon but may just help us scrape to 4th in the PL if he keeps recent form up.
He never went anywhere.
Yeah been saying same. Feared this from the start and the bs from Roma was just that. Glad I didn’t get my hopes up too much but this makes it increasingly hard to use my scarce time to Watch this moron play for us under football vampire Arteta.
I want to be irrational and rage but really. There’s just no out-goings happening from this club at any angle. There’s just something very wrong about what we’ve done and what we’re doing.
Have we sold anyone yet?
