A bit strange to be depressed that people want to move to another country tbh.

Its their life they can do what they like with it :joy:

The governments have repeatedly shown they hate young people.

From brexit taking their opportunities to allowing the entire subcontinent here to undercut them, to raising their taxes and cutting community services and infrastructure but keeping the triple lock. The housing market

Why would you ever stay as a young person.

That isn’t what I said. People are free to do whatever they like.

After all my own brother has lived and worked in the US for over 30yrs.

Don’t think it’s strange, think it’s quite natural.

I wouldn’t be keen on moving abroad…I wouldn’t be able to go to The Arsenal, so I’m afraid you’re stuck with me!

I’m quite adaptable, don’t think I’m stuck with you as you’d hope mate

One of the few things that’s kept me around.

Onto the most important news of the day…Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands and Slovenia boycott the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest…can’t believe that we don’t have a Eurovision thread on this forum…I may need to correct that.

Never been one to GAF about Eurovision, but it’ll be interesting to see which other nations withdraw.

Its a horrible thing to have happened to him and his family and something you shouldn’t expect but why are you picking stuff out a bin like a tramp.

The TV show they did around this is very good.

Because he was a broke drunk, basically.

I can’t believe how lightly we treated the Russians when this happened, especially in light of what they then went on to do in Ukraine.

The Russian conflict in Ukraine has exposed the waining power and influence of the West.

American influence is fading because India don’t give a heck about the American warnings they’re building even closer economic ties with Russia than ever before.

European unity and strength has been tested too because outside of some aid they’ve not really been able to do anything to deter Russia. Not even the economic sanctions have disrupted Russian plans.

If Labour had any instincts beyond their own survival at the next GE, their response to the hand wringing about whether Reeves misled the public at the budget could have been avoided - surplus or deficit, military spending beyond anything seen in most of our adult lifetimes is needed and that’s one of the key reasons tax needs to increase. Because we don’t want to live in a country dominated by Russia.

But even if Labour raised taxes to spend on the military, they wouldn’t deliver a stronger military.

Yes, UK should be putting alot more into Defence, particularly into the Navy and RAF.

The bigger issue with central european powers beside spending is that the general populace is very reluctant to support any kind of military action that is in the “grey” area ie situations where there is provocation and proxy warfare but no direct attack. Unfortunately Putin thrives in that space and takes advantage of western reluctant escalate things.

If things really did kick off in a big way I think there would be plurality of european actively for appeasement

Well there’s not much choice on that really because at the moment the alternatives to appeasement are near certain defeat in a conventional war or actually using Britain and France’s nuclear capability which is a disaster on a level humanity has never witnessed before.

In direct peer to peer non nuclear conflict with Russia? The central european powers with US material support would absolutely slap Russia + Belarus. It would actually be ugly for Putin, he’d have to hide underground.

The Russian operations in Ukraine has highlighted Russia is really a paper tiger.

I was assuming without US support. (Hence not including them in the nuclear option).

Russia might have military weaknesses but at least they have a military.

I know you don’t like erdogan but you have to give him props for how he doesn’t tolerate Russian nonsense.

I wonder if that’s a reason Turkey are still part of NATO etc.

The way the European countries have tried Russia (Baltic States and Finland apart) is pathetic.
