Far right activists striking a blow against noted socialists Foot Locker, it seems.

Someone stabbed three children and a teacher/carer outside a school today. I think one is still in very serious condition but others are ok.

Like anywhere else there have been protests against immigration recently and this incident is been used to kick off all the violence.

I’ve been rage scrolling twitter for hours. Buses, trams, cop cars and even a hotel have been set on fire. Its fucked up

Seems like “muslim” migration issue is coming to the forefront of attention across Europe again.

It really hasn’t been a thing here until a couple of years back and if anything it was the influx of Ukrainians that saw anti immigration protests gain any traction. But these things always grow and morph of course and that certainly plays a part in what we’re seeing here.

Politically, i don’t think the set up here would lead to the possibility of such a platform gaining serious momentum but equally i didn’t think I’d be seeing what I’m seeing tonight. All bets are off now.

Interesting. I wasn’t aware of that

What was the cause for ill feeling towards Ukrainians? The stress on local resources?

Cunts.

Assume you’re not referring to the Ukrainians?

I never really thought that immigration would be such a political issue for Republic of Ireland.

What makes you think immigration isn’t a political issue to people in any country? (Short of not having any immigration to worry about).

I have always thought given they have been proud members of the EU and generally seem to have embraced free movement, that immigration wasn’t a big political issue.

Idiots.

To give this a proper answer. I believe its a combination of things but primarily its about numbers. Ireland has had huge immigration ever since the EU expansion in 2004. At the census last year we learned that 1 in 5 of our population wasnt born in Ireland. What we have never had before however is hundreds/thousands of refugees arriving on a daily or weekly basis.

Add to that a pre existing housing crisis and cost of living difficulties and opportunistic right wing idiots conflating the whole thing and churning out disinformation and last night is where we ended up.

Russia inflicted a different sort of damage which while unfortunate has been an interesting watch.

What disinformation exactly has been churned out? Do you have concrete examples?

For example, in The Netherlands, the far right won two days ago precisely because of the housing crisis, living expenses difficulties and rampant immigration (which is factual). There wasn’t really disinformation, people aren’t stupid nor blind.

So I am curious what the disinformation is they’re spreading in Ireland?

One example i can think of is where twitter was full of claims that busloads of “unvetted” males were being brought into a particular area and it turned out it was actually a school tour. That sort of thing.

For one, people saying these murders are increasing in frequency when the opposite is true.

What a horrific he crime I’m glad that the perpetrator is being brought to justice.

However shame on those using this to stoke violence and division.

Ok. Well that is a blatant lie then.

If the situation in Ireland is similar to The Netherlands, then the general sentiment is true though. There is rampant immigration, verified by official government agencies.

Also, the far right party here is specifically against immigration from non-European countries of peoples who hold opposing values and are unable to integrate into Dutch society. The PVV has no problem with Ukrainian refugees (which by the way are mostly consisting of women and children in stark contrast with immigration from African nations, which are predominantly men).

The Kremlin knows the Europe’s pressure points and is currently pressing on them.

They’ve weaponized black and brown migrants against their neighbours.

I’m not sure what constitutes “rampant” immigration but as i said one in five people living in Ireland were not born here. There are many reasons for that but the primary reason is the growth of our economy and the need for a workforce to compliment that which Irish people alone could never have fulfilled.

I don’t know. Personally I am pro open borders worldwide.

Being Dutch by passport, but not ethnicity, personally I don’t affiliate with Dutch traditions per say.

But, I can understand the frustration of native Dutch, seeing their country step by step changing into something they don’t feel is Dutch anymore (one can say, it is exaggerated, but at the same time in the big cities especially it is palpable that the Dutch see drastic changes).

Certain groups of immigrants of the Islamic persuasion simply do not integrate, are hostile towards non-muslims, and so forth. This is not disinformation, this is how it is. As recent as a few days ago, a Christian IRAQI, was assaulted and beaten up by two Muslim Syrians in a tram in The Hague. And this is not an isolated incident. And this fuels the right wing, because the left wing is doing fuck all to solve the tension and problems the nation has got.

And I am saying this as someone who wants open borders and everyone to live in peace. I voted as such. It doesn’t mean however, I cannot see the problems for what they are. I just don’t think leaving the EU and closing the borders is the answer.

Also here are the immigration figures for NL:
Screenshot 2023-11-24 at 11.40.04

That’s about 650.000 immigrants in 4 years time. On a population of 17 million.

On top of that we see the immigration figures increase. This graph shows 400.000 immigrants in 2022. That’s rampant I’d say.

These statistics are from the official Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek.
