This is just over the top bullshit. The entirety of social media (you haven’t even named a specific platform ffs) is an ultra left wing echo chamber?
The other day I was looking at a tweet by some GB News journalist, and inevitably (and understandably) all of the suggested tweets were other likeminded right wing journalists or personalities. I ended up going down a rabbit hole of reading loads of different right wing tweets, with not a left wing perspective in sight.
Social media creates echo chambers, but the nature of the echo chamber is defined by the people you follow and the media you consume. To label the whole thing as being some sort of leftist echo chamber is just weird, you get the echo chamber you personally “ask for”
QAnon is the conspiracy theory that practically deified Donald Trump as being the saviour of trafficked and abused children while baselessly alleging that Democrats are Satan worshipping, child murdering nonces. I dont know how you’d begin to square its meteoric rise to prominence on twitter, facebook and instagram with social media apparently being the kind of echo chamber you describe it to be in its totality.
I ask for none as I don’t even use it any longer. I literally found those tweets from a page on a website linked through Google images. After the mass banning of “Qtards” and Trump supporters beginning around 2017, I stopped using it because it became clear one ideology (the liberal left with Dorsey, Zuckerberg, and the scrotes that run Reddit - which I used to love) was in charge of who got to say what. I despise echo chambers and blue check marked liberals were making Twitter into that (or at least wanted to) as can be seen in those pics posted above - and countless others like them.
GB News is not a right-wing platform, it’s a “free speech” platform with people from across the political spectrum from lefty feminists to Nigel Farage and that’s a good thing, imo at least.
Wow. So does your limits solely go down to “calls to commit violence” then? That’s what “free speech” used to mean but now it seems to have qualifiers attached to it for most.
I see your comments on religion and Holocaust denial but like, should people in your mind of “absolute free speech” be able call Obama or whoever the “n-word” or call Caitlyn Jenner anti-lgbtq terms and not be banned?
edit:
Also, Musk mentioned his desire to “authenticate all humans” which sounds to me like having to verify who you are to have an account, do you think this a good idea?
That’s the nature of the industry Bezos is at. No matter how you frame it, A billionaire deciding the work terms for thousands of on field workers will always come across wrong.
Musk has been clever to stay away from industries that need to rely on high volume of skilled workers.
Look I get the clamour of praising Musk and criticising Bezos, I would suggest not having a high expectations from Musk so you don’t fall flat on your face when eventually Elon’s impulses makes him do something wrong.
If someone is serious about discussing ideas and wants to engage in a civil discussion, there is no need to call someone the n-word or transphobic labels. I would choose to interact with such a person.
If someone wants to expose oneself as a racist or transphobic moron, then that person can say the n-word and it is up to you and me to call him out for the racist bigot he is and you and I can decide to not interact with him. If such a person is harassing another user, by bombarding him with messages and insults, there are grounds for limiting that person’s ability to use the platform. But, harassment is something else than simply writing one’s opinion.
Of course - absolute freedom of speech is not a simple premise. Unfortunately there are many ifs or buts, but again who is to decide what is crossing the line and what is not. Different people, different philosophies and ideologies.
Also, Musk mentioned his desire to “authenticate all humans” which sounds to me like having to verify who you are to have an account, do you think this a good idea?
I think this is a terrific idea. You will see the amount of hateful, abusive comments and interaction on twitter decrease by large quantities.
Because it is easy to be a racist, xenophobic, transphobic prick when you are anonymous. Not so easy if you have to do it face to face.
It’s an excellent idea to have real people, interact with other real people.
So what you’re saying is that it’s ok to not interact with individuals who use bigoted language? So in effect, when platforms like Twitter decide to remove users form their platform for using bigoted language than they’re simply doing exactly what it is you’d do but on a grander scale?
When you deplatform someone that person isn’t able to communicate with anyone anymore on a platform used by millions of people.
On an individual level I can decide for myself I am not interested in talking to you, because you offend me. However, I am not campaigning against you to get your account suspended and deplatformed so you cannot express your view with anyone else either on the same platform we are using.
On an individual level I will not be friends, nor communicate with people who are racist, transphobic bigots or people who deny the holocaust. On a global scale I do support their right to be bigots and say those ridiculously stupid views, because on a global scale it is a slippery slope. Next one up being deplatformed or curbed silent is anyone else not towing the accepted ideological line.
I much rather call these people out for the bigots they are and give arguments then ban them. Fuel their anger and resentment in the process.
We are talking here now in terms of extreme examples. The fact is, people have been deplatformed and bullied for much less dissent. At times dissent that is totally harmless and makes a lot of sense, but which went against the prevailing narrative of those that want to tell you and I how to behave and see the world according to their narrow-minded world view.
So when do you determine that? Who defines it?
Does Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, OnlineArsenal qualify?
Should OnlineArsenal or ArsenalMania be barred from banning any Arsenal fan because it is an important platform in Arsenal ecosphere.
Should AFTV not allowed to remove Claude despite him making DVD remarks?
If Government starts meddling into the operations of a private business, you will start removing incentives for businesses to grow.
If you’ve ever been to a Tim Westwood rave this is the least surprising piece of information ever lmao. I can’t believe he lasted so long this guy has never even hidden what kind of guy he is lol
