Macron isn’t really part of the left tbh. He’s a liberal and left on some social issues (not all), but for all the talk about the UK being rigth wing comapred to EU countires i just dont see it that way. A choice betwene Macron and Le Pen is fucking horrific, the fact she got over 35% of the vote is even mroe so

Yeah i was talking about the established left parties, and Fuck the media, the way they painted Le Pen as a moderate extremist compared to Zemmour, was and still is disgusting.

I’ve mentioned before socialism is dead in France, and it really didn’t help Macron last year when he insulted the French people last year during the covid crisis.

That’s what it seems like.

And we will probably see more of it.

Wonder whats the end game here…

Can see alot of twitter staffers and left leaning verified users leaving the platform and starting their own.

Seems like a pointless/troll level acquisition tbh

I don’t really think any one individual should hold as much wealth, power and influence as Musk clearly has.

If all he does is make Twitter open source, then it’ll be more than worth it.

True, but it’s also the inevitable end game of a capitalist system. Some people are going to be really good at it

true but same could be said of Bezos.

And Zuckerberg

Liberals had no problem laughing at places like Rumble and others, now they want to look for one? :arteta:

My stance on this is the same as it was when they banned him. If the new Twitter owners decide to let Trump (or others) back on its their platform thats their decision. Equally if people leave because of that decision thats also their choice.

Doesn’t have to be a fight (lol its Twitter i know), its just people making decisions and everyone should get over it.

Should it be though? Just because they have enough wealth to own the platform?

I can understand why someone like Trump was banned initially

On a personal level, no. My life’s a bit richer not having to see people angrily retweeting his latest crap or even if I had him blocked/muted him seeing the screen grabs people make of it cos they know loads of us had him blocked.

But it is a capitalist world we live in every bit as much as it is a liberal world we live in and people are allowed own and control things like twitter.

Same, but it’s equally understandable that different owners will rock up with different values and make different decisions.

I am a freedom of speech absolutist and I despise the silencing of people who’s opinion one doesn’t agree with. No matter how ridiculous. I despise parroting and group pressure, be it from the left or the right or the center.

As my Holmes Chomsky put it:

Noam Chomsky Believes Trump Is “ the Worst Criminal in Human History ” …

Isn’t this a bit contradictory? You get why Trump was banned but are questioning why new owners should have the power to allow Trump to return? The power that banned him is the same power that can unban him really.

I wasn’t a big fan of him being banned but then again Twitter is just a company and they can choose who to offer their services to. We might not agree with who they choose to do this with but the principle is difficult to argue against.

That’s fair - my question is really asking who should be the authority to regulate free speech in the digital space? Is it right that someone who has a certain level of wealth should even be in the position to make the decision on Trump being banned or returning?

I fully understand the counter to that being twitter is a “just” company, it can do what it wants and there’s a purely transactional relationship between users but I’d argue that is reductive and doesn’t actually represent what twitter actually does or it role in public discourse.

I don’t think twitter has ever been “just” a company, sure it’s governed and regulated that way but maybe it shouldn’t be because of the impact it has on free speech and debate. Twitter is a digital entity involved in the dissemination and amplification information to a scale we’ve never seen before in human history, surely the final say shouldn’t be in the hand of a tiny group of ultra billionaires?

I’m just musing here
