Israelâs behaviour over the many decades is indefensible. Iâll never understand how people go down the âIsrael are just defending themselvesâ route when they literally dehumanise the Palestinians. They treat them as subhumans, bulldoze their homes, illegally build settlements.
Itâs not even like Palestine have anything resembling a sophisticated military, itâs literally regular people defending their homes.
Israelâs behaviour in Palestine is as bad as any youâll probably see in modern world history.

Israel has such a powerful lobby you canât say this sort of thing as a politician and expect to survive. Hence, no one really does. And to compound the problem, the far right types will defend Israel to the hilt too because they a) provide an example of a successful apartheid state and b) are our strategic allies in the Islamic world. A further problem is those that do openly speak about this in the public sphere tend to believe in the dismantling of the Israeli state, which is crackers. Itâs not so much that people care more for Ukrainians than Palestinians, at least I donât think so, itâs just Ukraine is easier to talk about, is far less complicated, and is better known about. Does the average joe even know where Palestine is, let alone know what happens there?

Always bemuses me to read Western people talk about Ukraine or Russia and think they know exactly how everything is and how simple it is. Understanding not a single word of Ukrainian or Russian.
In fact, Israel itâs pretty simple. They got a nation state gifted to them by the British on lands that werenât dedicated and internationally recognized as Israeli before 1948.
A mass transfer of Jewish peoples (including the ones from Eastern Europe, the ashkenazi, of which I have some blood) began populating predominantly Arab Muslim and Arab Christian lands and the rest is history as they say.
The West Bank is a de facto apartheid state. With Israel running the law and security checkpoints on Palestinian lands. Imagine this. Palestinians are treated as second class citizens on their own land!
Meanwhile Jewish settlers are illegally founding settlements on Palestinian lands, forcing Palestinians to leave their homes and often with a lot of intimidation and violence.

Not to mention the absolute containment of Gaza. Israelis deciding what comes in and out of another country.
Itâs of course a very complicated matter for those people who want to defend and excuse Israelâs aggressive, expansionist and apartheid behavior.

Macronâs mandates were both won because people wanted to stop the far right, and by looking at the results, the number of those people is diminishing with each election, the left is a huge mess in France, if thatâs not fixed, it can get ugly five years from now.
