Gabriel Martinelli (11)

Boy you better step up next season, Arteta’s bringing two lads who can play in your position and can actually take on their players.

Pass to Havertz making the overlap, who’d then cut it back to Saka, 1-0 to the Arsenal.

Simply shit Gabi…

There was a similar attack with Saka having the ball, Havertz doing the overlap again, Saka did the logical thing and rolled it to Kai, Kai cut it back to Rice who had a great chance to score.

It worries me how his decision making isn’t improving fast enough.

Showed great potential early on by having many of the needed characteristics of a good winger, like engine, pace, aggression and a neverending willingess to take players on (which are great fundamentals to build on), whilst having to work on his decision making and finishing in the final third, but those two things haven’t really improved much in the last couple of seasons have they.

And if you’re not the best finisher that can be absolutely fine, if you have everything else and have the feeling for a good pass for someone else at the end - that’d be gold, but I’m not seeing much of that developing either.

this is exactly why ability without intelligence is a waste.

Martinelli has ability, but he’s pretty thick. Makes the wrong decision almost every time.

I like gabi, he joined us young and gave some great moments while showing real promise.

Didn’t watch the friendly but looking at that clip it’s just going to be more of the same shit over and over with his decision making.

I do think if we got an offer of 70m or whatever was rumoured, we should entertain it. He can be a useful squad player but the brain is not progressing and I don’t understand why he keeps trying the same things.

Nothing wrong with the team ‘evolving’ passed him or that he simply isn’t improving as a player. It’s down to the club to upgrade this position. He’s our Brazilian Welbz at the moment. Can’t fully knock a player like that but we know we need better.

not just his technical abilities did not improve, his decision making hasn’t improved a bit also.

Martinelli was nowhere near as good as Welbeck.

Welbeck was good?

Yeah. Still is.

With NFL quarterbacks people often talk about processing speed. How fast does a QB see what’s happening on the field after the snap, process all that information, and then make the right decision about where to throw the ball and with exactly what timing? Some guys just have it - Tom Brady more than anything was maybe the best processor of all time. And some guys just don’t.

Martinelli just doesn’t have it.

I don’t want to be too harsh on him, so I will just say, he does not have it right now.
Not before and not now.
Don’t know if he will improve it, but it is not quite optimistic.

You’re a Marti hater, we get it.

I want Martinelli to do well but there’s no denying, he is a bit of a dumbass. Can’t do the simple things, almost always picks the wrong option. Mikel has a lot of patience with him for some reason, but I hope we don’t see too much of Gabi this season.

Welbeck is an extremely average footballer. Martinelli is kinda more useful than a fit Welbeck, let alone never present Welbeck
We can atleast rely on Martinelli to win us corners; Welbeck was only useful as a workhorse.

A surefire sign that we’re talking about a forward who is essentially shit.

yup, that’s why I can’t understand anyone who says Martinelli can still play for us. IN no capacity should he be a starter if we wish to win the league

Welbz was the better dribbler and a passer.

Actually thinking about it now, I think Arteta would make more use of Welbz than Wenger did. Wenger allowed him way too much freedom, he was very messy in his positioning on the pitch…
Arteta would use his athleticism, dribbling, ball carrying, very good link up etc much better imo.

Welbz was very useful, shame about the injuries. I think he would be a very good option to have even in this team, I’d say likely even a better one than Martinelli in his current/last year’s form.

Welbeck was not only a match in terms of raw athleticism but he has much better fundamentals than someone like low IQ Martinelli. Technically he’s very sound.

Main issue with Welbeck was the absence of killer instinct and finishing ability in front of goal.

In terms of playing football it’s not much of a contest between the two.

People cite all those attributes and I never felt Welbeck was ever a useful player of us like Martinelli was 2 seasons ago.
