Gabriel Martinelli (11)

Did a Martinelli lookalike break your heart as a teenager bruv? It’s like everytime there is a Martinelli post even slightly critical (I weren’t criticising him, for clarity) a version of a Bat signal appears to you and you’re ready to steam In!!!

When you see a player with his natural ability it is frustrating. He isn’t getting as much out of his talent as he should be.
He needs coaching, knocking down so he has to get back up on his feet and to get that extra missing attacking aggression.
As I’ve said , all he needs is more aggression, greater awareness and to be more ruthless.
The we have a whole new Martinelli .

I actually agree with Ash a bit. Martinelli has aggression but there are times where I’d like to see him really go at a defender but he has twenty minutes of safe play. The Anfield game was testament to this. Roasted Trent in the first half and then started playing safe. Happened in a few games.

You won’t find a bigger Mar9 fan on here than me, but I get what Ash is saying. I disagree a bit with ruthless though as he doesn’t mess around in the box.

Nah, you’re just trying not to be harsh on Ash. The criticism doesn’t make any sense.

@Stroller and @SRCJJ have been critical of Martinelli before and it was far more constructive.

Saying a player has ‘natural ability’ seems pretty positive to me.

Trust me, I’m the chairman of both the Mar9 and ESR defence leagues.

Well said . That’s nailed everything.
Trent couldn’t hold onto Martinellis shadow yet , as you correctly said , Martinelli played too safe , go for the kill . Mistakes will happen but this is a team going for the title .
This is what he needs to work on.

Which is fine but the way you criticise him sounds like he’s dogshit and not just banged 15 goals this season.

Of course he has stuff to work on, he’s just turned 22. Saka has just as much to work on.

Both had their best ever seasons and hopefully will continue to improve, not sure why martinelli gets more focus.

If a 21 year old Brazilian dribble king scores 15 league goals from a wide forward position in any of the top 5 leagues, you can bet your arseholio that he’s worth at least £75m.

But scoring 15 in England at that age is simply phenomenal. A real scouting success story.

Imo Martinelli had an even better season that Saka. I don’t recall him going through a purple patch of 10 games on the bounce putting in subpar performances.

The argument regarding his aggression is moot. He’s the 2nd most aggressive player on our team, behind only Jesus. And even that aggression doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll pay off.

If he was British he’d get fat more plaudits than Saka has, and his valuation would be considerably higher too.

If Martinelli was at Brighton or West Ham, his value would be £100m and not a penny less.
