Gabriel Jesus (9)

:ozil:

jokes aside though he is definitely overrated if you think he is a top shelf striker costing anywhere near his latest transfer fee, but a rumoured £25m is alright if you play the type of football that can use him. For a loan though?

United paid 50m for AWB

The Chelsea fans on reddit are thrilled at the prospect of getting rid of Lukaku and also furious at the idea that Jesus would come in as a replacement.

It’s a lot of the same arguments we’ve seen on here (i.e.: if he’s not scoring in a perfectly drilled machine like Man City, what chance does he have to do it in a system like Chelsea or if he’s so good, why did Pep play Gundogan as a false nine instead of letting Jesus run out as a striker).

I don’t think Jesus makes that much sense for them. Chelsea already have players up front like Havertz and Werner who bring a lot to the table but also have questionable finishing and goal scoring skills for a 9. Their system also relies on the “wide” forwards to supply creativity and play between the lines (Mount, Ziyech, Pulisic), so they need a player at the tip of the spear that can score goals.

This is sad to say but the harsh truth is also that City may be more comfortable selling him to us than to Chelsea because they view us as less of a threat.

Chelsea are as desperate as us for a striker because Werner and Lukaku are almost as bad as Aubameyang and Lacazette.

I think they’ll go for a more established striker than Jesus, who’s not a proven PL goal scorer.

Or

He was in my FF team most of the season so Chelsea will have to ask my permission to speak to him.

This cannot stand.

Jesus PL goals the last 3 seasons: 8, 9, 14 (his record amount of PL goals).

Assuming we get him, he plays 2,000+ minutes, and stays relatively injury free. You taking the over under on 14.5 goals scored?

Jesus over under goal tally
  • Will score at least 15 goals
  • Will score less than 15 goals

1, we haven’t got him yet
2,we don’t know his role
3,it’s also dependent on incoming players and tactics.

Under.

He doesn’t take penalties and only three players scored > 15 non-penalty goals last season (four players the season before).

Its early days for sure but i dont see our window being all that transformative. I think our additions are gonna be pretty straightforward. Tielemans and Jesus, with some bench players sprinkled in. Ur attacking force is gonna be basically the same with Jesus replacing Laca. We’re banking on Saka and ESR/Ode taking a big step in their development by the looks of it, imo anyways.

easily over, imo

I have zero doubt about Jesus’ ability to score and put up numbers. We’d be lucky to get him at this stage no lie

I have a lot of faith in the abilities of a lot of players that are at the club. Just interesting to me we had two strikers who were good for 10 to 15 goals at least per season, and we saw sub optimal numbers the likes they’ve never had in their careers. We’ll see if Gabriel can buck the trend.

Fair - It’s true there isn’t conclusive evidence Arteta’s system generates alot of goals from the CF spot

I feel the setup in 22/23 will be the key sample to come to a definitive conclusion on this especially if we get Jesus. I think Jesus will relish having a bigger status on and off the pitch compared to City

If you gave prime Lacazette a full season starting every game he’d hit 15 in the league. Giroud was always around that mark too when he was starting every game.

It seems pretty clear to me that if Jesus was our main man for a whole season he’s also capable of that. It’s not like 15 is some kind of elite number for a top 6 side.

Just dunno why Jesus isn’t wrapped up if he’s supposed to be our main target and been going on for months already.

We move so slow.

I still believe Jesus will be our saviour.

Vardy played in less matches and had the same minutes as Laca this season, one is 35 the other is 30. One scored 15 goals the other scored 4. For me there’s something rotten but I guess we’ll find out if our strikers just got old over night or if it’s a systemic thing soon enough. Hoping we bag Gabriel.

I put less but with the caveat that 2000 minutes (even with only 80 minutes average) is only 25 games equivalent. 15 goals from 25 games is a lot for a striker in a team focusing on goals from the wide areas and defending from the front.

Depending on who else we sign though I think he will play a lot more than this however, and if he plays 30+ with 80 min average I think he will be at or over 15.
