Formula One

Come on, just been one race. Yeah the Mercs looks great but there would have been 2 Ferraris on the podium if Ferrari didn’t screw up their strategy as always. The gap between the Merc and Lewis’ car was dropping all the time towards the end of the race. So I don’t think Merc will have it all their way.

I think there is a good chance he will be, given how strong the Mercedes was today. However, I think Ferrari will hopefully be in the mix, and don’t rule out Red Bull yet - Max crashed out in Q1, so started the race at the back of the grid and Hadjar retired because of engine failure.

Development over the course of the season will be key, along with reliability.

The thing that struck me most about the race today, was how lightening quick the Ferrari’s were off the line at the start. At other tracks, even if they are in P9 / P10, they will be at the front going into the first corner.

Those quick starts are because of the smaller turbo used by Ferrari engines that spools up much quicker. I expected them to have a good start but what surprised me was their race pace. The Mercs were supposed to have very strong race pace but the Ferrari’s pretty much matched them, at least on that circuit.

And like you said, development of the car during the course of the season as well as drivers adapting to the cars and different tracks will play a big role.

From purely a Ferrari perspective, while the smaller turbo helps with race starts and slower corners, on fast tracks like Spa and Monza, they will have a disadvantage cause of lower top speed. Those are the tracks they will bring out the rotating wing in I think. Will be interesting.

Sounds more like a transformers movie than formula one racing.

Stranded out on track with a gearbox malfunction, he made it back to the pits where the team rushed to fix a problem they could not identify.

In the end, switching the steering wheel and turning the car off and on again did it, and Russell just made it out for a final lap.

:joy::joy: this is so funny

Once Ferrari sort out their tyre deg issues, they’re gonna be flying. The car is good.

Tyre deg is a problem but straight line speed is the major one. And high speed corners as well.

Straight line speed is an issue yes, it’s only because their turbo is slightly smaller which helps with battery and corner exits, and overall responsiveness. Few trade-offs that will see them better at certain circuits.

enjoying the merc vs ferrari battle

Good to see Ferrari back in the mix. I’m slightly biased saying that as a huge Lewis fan. The Mercedes looks like it will be the dominant car. Just got to hope the two drivers trade wins to get Lewis some hope of a 8th World Title. Been a decent race. I’m enjoying the cat and mouse nature of the overtakes.

Antonelli with his first win in F1! Excellent drive

Lewis coming home in 3rd…his first podium for ages…good to see him back in form

Beautiful to see sir Lewis back on form.

It’s just a shame to see the FIA make shitty engines allowing Mercedes domination just because toto says

Everyone had the same chance to construct a winning engine though…Mercedes have just got it right again.

To a certain extent you are right.

If it must be Mercedes dominance this year, can it be Kimi that wins the title George Russell is a massive prick

I’m not a huge fan of George…of all the British drivers on the grid, he is the one I like the least. Liked seeing Kimi get the win and seeing his emotion after the race.

I do think the other teams will keep Mercedes honest with development. Just desperate to see Lewis win again.

The funny thing from today was that it looked like Mercedes had some sort of secret button which turned off McLaren’s engines before the start of the race

Hope they turn their own engines off

nice to see Lewis get a podium, for me these two are the two best teams in f1 so good to see them lock out the top 4 in back to back races

go on Kimi, crying at his post race interview,

what a weekend for teenagers in sport

Leclerc and Hamilton battles this year are going to be glorious. Happy that Lewis still has it.

If Ferrari had a quicker engineer this would genuinely be an all timer year, but unfortunately Mercedes are going to run away with it.
