Ive been successful in previous versions of FM but in this 23 game I just cant seem to get it right.
Have a good run and then it all falls to shit

I’m trailing a new 3-5-1 formation with Odegard/Havertz/ESR rotating in the two AMC positions this has led to some amazing one-touch stuff around the box.

1st Choice atm - Ramsdale, Gabriel, Saliba, White, Rice, Zinchenko, Saka, Martinelli, Havertz, Odegaard, Jesus. Subs, Turner, Timber, Tierney, Tommy, Partey, ESR, Trossard, Balogun. (Convinced the latter to stay).

Just to be clear, I don’t have a problem with people who’s surnames start with the letter “t”.

Lavia will sell for less than £25m at the start of the game! Bid already placed, bit of a tangle over the work permit at the moment though. I’ve restarted with the new squad to see how it does. I’ve been signed off work for 6 weeks, so should get a season done pretty quickly.

Is it the mid season slump that gets you. Its seems to be worse this season.

Same here, still on fm17. I seem to stick with an fm for years.

FM08 me and my mates had the GOAT net game (4am every night type shiz) so we ended up playing that til FM13 came out and finally made the switch. Played that for years til 17 then never upgraded since :joy:

Yer, around xmas or Jan, a whole month seems to be shocking and we never really recover.
I dont think my tactics are ever that bad, we beat the big teams but then lose to Leeds or Southampton!
I wonder if the game requires you to set up differently away from home, or against good sides, but then I adapt to be slightly more defensive or conservative and we play shit.

I start away games with a 4-5-1 narrow low block then slowly move players up once the pace of the 1st half settles down, if we go 2 up then I revert to my 3 at the back home tactics. So, yes, tactically different approaches to home and away. I also shout “encourage” as soon as the game kicks off and it seems to give them an early boost away from home.

Keep an eye out for opposition substitutions, especially away from home. As soon as they’re on, go to the tactics screen, opposition instructions and ask your assistant for opposition advice so that the original instructions can be changed. I’ve found this more important now half the outfield team can be subsituted by the end of the match.

Also change mentality during the match that helps alot.

Once the game hits you with the mid season slump just slightly change the tactic eithen a postional change can help.

I’ve been a loyal player since CM 92-93, but lost interest since 2015 or so. Are the new versions and “updated” match engine worth it?

From 2015 to 2023 will mean an upgrade in 3d player behaviours, more unusual incidents too which is good. The tactics side will be familiar as it’s long overdue an overhaul. Buying players and negotiating contracts is more interesting but the press conferences become quite annoyingly repetitive (which I guess is pretty close to real life).

It really needs modding to hell to make it worthwhile in my opinion, if you do get it, I recommend having a look on “sortitoutsi” website for EPL facepacks, club & competition badges, kit packs, name fixes and UI skins to make it seem really immersive.

Arsenal FM era of Ozil and Sanchez is so good (even though I don’t play them much), the developers loved those two players.

But mainly seen no reason to get the newer ones.

Those wanting to upgrade on the cheap, buy FM22 and get one of the many data patches up to the start of the 22/23 season.

Thanks for the info! Yes I remember sortitoutsi and thedugout, but not sure that’s still around. And the FMRTE editor? Used that quite a lot back in the day to correct stats that were overpowered etc. Thinking about buying FM23 now that’s it on sale, but worried it’s only been glorified updates the last seasons :grimacing: So maybe I’ll wait until next season.

I miss the CM days, where stats didn’t really mean as much. A player could have rather poor values (5-10), but still perform very well.

FMRTE is still going strong, for a small fee these days. There’s also an in-game editor which is more limited but less likely to cause issues but that cost about £7 if my memory serves me, still.

I’ll try to remember to watch FM15 on You Tube later to see how different it is.

Fm23 is currently £22.49 if anyone wants to upgrade

That should see you through to FM25 when the new engine come out.

That would be great :slightly_smiling_face:

Since I was in the game, I always used FMRTE to make me better  But I never bought myself.

First season managing Exeter in league 1, started the season with no wage or transfer budget, and had the 3rd lowest wage spend in the division.

Terminated a couple of loans, and sold a player to reinvest a little. Have just finished the season by winning the playoff final

But a lot of my players aren’t even good league 1 players, so now most of my squad is on the transfer list :joy:
(Not giving me much choice when players with 1 year remaining on £1k per week are asking for £6-7k to renew :face_vomiting: )

Championship will be a real challenge

Had a disastrous finish to the season, missed out on top and now Saka, Ramsdale, Odegaard and others want to leave.
Saka had a release clause in his contract and has gone to PSG!!
Absolutely distraught lol, no idea how I replace him.

I’m not even gonna lie, if I lost Saka after one season I’d consider starting entirely from scratch
