Arsenal FC selling for peanuts as usual. If he were at Chelsea or City that’s £50m and not a penny less.
Not to Monaco or any European side outside of PSG, Munich, Madrid or Barca it isn’t.
“Additional generic comment about how much we sold him for”
Honestly 40m is pretty good for a non-English/PSG/Real/Saudi club. 2 years ago, it would have been hard to imagine us getting 40m for him. If you look at fees outside of England and Saudi, there aren’t many players going for this much. Openda is probably the main one I can think of going for a bit more.
Good bit of business and wish him well. Hopefully at least got a sell on clause inserted into the deal.
the only bad thing is, Balogun never had a chance to show himself here with the club, unlike Eddie’s chance last season.
Folarin should have that chance, but he could not wait and wanted to be a starter.
Given the sorts of players that go for 30-40 mill these days, I simply can’t get excited about the fee for one of the best under 22 strikers in Europe.
He didn’t want it. He was the one who at the start of this summer made it known he wouldn’t go on loan again and he wouldn’t settle for being second choice.
I think a big part of the fee was that we needed to sell
We have spent a lot of money and need to recoup some of that. He was always going to be the striker that left and so other clubs knew we had to get rid.
Had we have been able to more ruthless and refuse bids knowing he may end up staying, we could have held out for more but it was never to be.
Going off transfer markt we’ve brought in around £55 million from the sales of Balogun, Xhaka, Turner, Trusty and Mari (deal was agreed previously but the money came in this summer because Monza avoided relegation).
That’s not nothing and it’s better than we’ve managed the last few years. Transforming your image as a selling club isn’t something that happens immediately and we’ve taken some steps to try and correct the image we’ve had in the past, e.g refusing to cancel Pepe’s contract.
I think the club are going to start actively using it as a business money maker too
Bringing in Trust and Tavares and maybe even Lokonga, plus renewing Baloguns contract, they are all ways for us as a club to bring in revenue and make money
I think we will continue to target young players with good potential and sell them on going forwards.
Great price for a player that hasn’t shown any value in a top league
Avg sale of £11m per player, that’s pretty awful for today’s standards, even for players who aren’t playing often.
Average sale isn’t a thing.
He’s just making the point that 55m isn’t great money for 5 players.
Didn’t say it was. I said it was better than we’ve done in recent years and that its not nothing.
I know you didn’t. Your “average sales isnt a thing” reply indicated to me that you didn’t grasp the point he was making, which was that the overall sum is not great for five players. Expressing that as an average sale of 11m per player is a fairly obvious way of him putting his point into context.
You thought I “didn’t grasp” the idea of averaging a transfer fee?
Fuck me, you are a patronising twat sometimes.
No need for name calling like that.
I cant see any reason to say “average sales arent a thing” unless you failed to grasp that he was using an average for illustrative purposes. His use of averages was for a clear purpose.
Nothing more to add so I’ll just leave it there.
I’ve got a loft full of stuff from my many hobbies that I’d love to sell for £100k so I can pay off my mortgage and retire. However, my collections value isn’t set by me, it’s set by the price I’ll get in the open market. If I get £5k I’d hope my wife won’t be asking why I sell things so cheaply and lecture me about holding out for an unattainable figure.
Same with footballers, as many have said and a few have yet to grasp, the buyer(s) determine the true value. My only gripe is that by making some players train in a separate departures lounge, we do rather make it obvious as to who is surplus.
Some of those transfermarkt values seems far off the figures reported in English media. Xhaka was widely reported around 21m pounds and Balogun around 34m pounds.
What the truth is I have no idea.
