He scores when he wants

Bigger challenges coming obviously but so far in his career he hasn’t seen a level of competition where he can’t figure out how to impact the game decisively.

Across all the levels he has played at since last spring - U21, U17Euros, U19 WC qualifiers, first team now - he has scored or assisted in 13 of his last 16 matches. Doesn’t matter who he plays with or what level, he puts it in the net or tees somebody else up to score.

He looks a real talent on the ball.

I don’t really want to put too much pressure on the boy in terms of covering for Odegaard, but I really hope Arteta starts bringing him in in the second half on a more regular basis, hopefully more that 5-10 mins.

He needs the games to develop his passing, decision making, link up etc… If he can add that to the dribbling skills he has there’s a beautiful player in there.

I still don’t expect him to do much in the PL in the near future. Being a decent squad option for the next season sounds more realistic, or maybe at the second half od this season at the earliest.
But I’d like him to get a taste of the PL, of the intensity, the pace etc so that he knows what to expect in the future, so that he knows he still needs to improve and work.

I think Arteta using him and MLS on in the Spurs and City games shows the faith he has in them.
We had options in both cases that could’ve got subbed in instead but we didn’t.

Hopefully the schedule now allows for them to get more time.

Unfortunately out of country so couldn’t find time to watch the game but just caught up with his compilation.

What impressed me the most was, he seems to understand his team mates well; the link up play, combination play with Saka. Makes sense, because he was integrated at training level with the seniors 18 months ago.

Many questioned my comment on his aura, not sure why. He’s been playing above his peers at every level and performing consistently club and international level. Yesterday, he looked composed and his confidence was evident in the 2nd goal he scored; he could have passed but he did a Endrick, and went for it himself.

Plenty more to come, exciting times ahead.

Everything you’ve said is in broad strokes also true of Bukayo Saka and Cesc Fabregas but it’s also true of Reiss Nelson and Alex Iwobi. For that matter it’s also true of Gavin and Justin Hoyte.

The questioning of your comment didn’t come from believing that Nwaneri is doing well, it came from the hyperbole that you used about ā€œauraā€ and equating him with Fabregas.

He is a good player with a lot of potential and who might well make it at Arsenal. Nothing less.

But also, crucially, nothing more yet. And elevating him like that does nothing but set him up for a fall at this stage.

Equating Ethan to the 16-17 year old Fabregas is justifiable, it’s not as if Fabregas was consistently starting, scoring or assisting lol. Cesc, didn’t break through immediately, an injury to Viera and then later to Gilberto meant he was able to get few starts. His real breakthrough season came post invincibles season whereby he was already 18. Remember this was all under Arsene Wenger, who was known to give exposure to youngsters and at a time when the team was lacking a playmaker.

On the other hand, Ethan since 15, has been top of his game at International level, whilst doing this ahead of his age group, something Cesc didn’t do. Unlike Cesc, Ethan is managed by Arteta who is far more rigid in giving youngsters a chance, but yesterday Ethan did something Cesc didn’t do at his age. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Ethan carries the same Aura young Cesc did. He’s going to have a great career. Full debut yesterday, 2 goals.

The crazy thing is we have another player coming through the ranks - will be fast tracked within 18 months. Max Dowman.

Cesc was 17 in the 2004-2005 season and made 33 league starts.

Okay so my points still stand. His breakout season was at the age of 17, not 18.

Let the kid learn, grow and mature.
No need to put additional and unnecessary (media) pressure on him.

If he wants to aim high, be the first Ethan Nwaneri that people will talk about, not the next Cesc or anybody.

Taljing about ā€œauraā€ is nothing to do with the player and everything to do with your perception. You’ve equated the two players in your mind when there’s no real reason to do so.

You said yourself, Nwaneri has done things Fabregas didn’t. Fabregas, it is likely to be shown, will have accomplished things Nwaneri doesn’t. Plenty of players excel at youth international level and don’t progress to do the same at senior level.

See I don’t get this lol.

Me posting on OA, won’t stop him from learning, growing and maturing lol. Even if we shut this thread down, he’s always going to face expectations, comparisons, criticism. It’s part of his enviroment and has been the case well before debuting as a 15 year old.

No one said he’s the next Cesc. In the football world or our world of fans, it is fairly normal and common to compare/align style of plays, whether ability wise or aura, it’s what creates debates and discussions in football. It’s really not that deep lol.

I’ve equated the auras of two players at same age, I see my justification and you don’t and that’s completely fine. It’s clear you don’t understand my post since you mention what Cesc has accomplished. My post has no relation to peak Cesc, it’s simply the years of 16-17.

For clarity, I was also referring to the same period since Nwaneri is not quite as old as Fabregas after his breakthrough.

When Nwaneri is a year or two older he may well be behind things Fabregas had accomplished in the same way Nwaneri might have more youth international experience than Fabregas now.
