Emmanuel Petit

The influence of Abramovich and Mansour, and what that did in changing the football landscape in England, is the biggest reason to be honest. Topclubs in Spain, Italy or Germany don’t have to deal with that hence the hieracrhy remains the same, always.

While I agree they made Chelsea and City much more competitive I don’t think that explains why little Leicester City finish above us in the league or why other non Sugar daddy clubs eg Liverpool, Scum and Utd have been doing so much better than us in recent years.

We have been genuinely poorly lead in too many respects in the last decade and a bit.

United have always had huge financial resources off the back of their success in the early prem years. Can’t compare them to us.

Should try some Jamaican rain if she thinks England is bad.

Funny how the majoritie of these players end up regretting leaving Arsenal, no doubt Aleksandr Hleb will be long shortly.

Most people think this is about Overmars. I reckon it’s about Petit

edit: tbf…could be about both lol. I guess the price matches up better with Marc

If I remember correctly, Overmars was widely reported to be the one we sold for 20 plus million to Barca, with Petit making up the remainder of the 30m total. So if he hasn’t confused the fees, it does seem to be Overmars.

I believe Overmars was also signed for 5 to 7m, with Petit being more like 3m, so also adds to it being Overmars.

Overmars had knee issues that led to his retirement as well, apparently having next to no cartilage left in his right knee by the end od his career.

I think you and the others are right. Anyway, Petit has confirmed his injuries were down to a witch doctor.

Now a pundit, Petit told French TV station SFR Sport that a marabout - an African spiritualist - had blighted his career.

He said: "I had a curse put on me. After the 2002 World Cup I was on a beach on the Cote d’Azur.

And Petit says it all started soon after being told he was cursed by a witch doctor.

"There were African street vendors going around, and one came up and set out some of his stuff in front of me.

"He told me: ‘There are rumours going around that a marabout has put an evil spell on you. People are jealous of you, and a serious injury will end your career.’

"I asked him what I could do to prevent this happening. He said: ‘You have to kill a cow.’

"At the time I thought he was just telling lies.

“But six months later I did suffer a serious injury. I did not kill a cow, and I went on to suffer a double ligament tear in my right leg.”

It’s Overmars surely. The time frame suits him more, no?

Yes, this is true.

Thinking about the transfer now, you could argue whether it was fair from us to take 20-ish million (a huge fee at the time) from Barca knowing he doesn’t have much football in him left. Makes us look like scammers tbh.

Unless Barca knew all that and took the risk, but that sounds foolish, idk lol :pires2:

No wonder we gave them Henry for so cheap :pires:
