Edu Gaspar

I don’t even really disagree with this. The sample size for Edu is not large but he’s made some good signings since arriving.

This is quite a nice breakdown of his signings when at Corinthians too and the success the team had whilst he was there.

We need to wait until the end of the window before proper judgment is made.

This poster clearly hasn’t been paying attention to previous Arsenal transfer windows.

This poster clearly has been paying attention to our previous transfer windows.

Eh. If we start the season without proper reinforcements I’ll still be a bit pissed. We always do that and lose one or two of the first weeks because we straight up have giant holes in the squad, then panic and buy someone.

This poster is clearly a spurs supporter.

Saying we need to give him time and he’s convinced that Edu is one of the best in the game.

He is weak but I definitely trust him more than Arteta.

This dude.
This fucking dude.

Created his own fifedom and wrecking things, isn’t he?

Handing a five year contract to Xhaka should be grounds for immediate dismissal.

Yeah, in terms of ā€œweakā€, he almost seems to be kowtowing to Arteta at times, which would be somewhat palatable if the results were good, but they haven’t been. He’s not just there for signings. He’s supposed to have his own vision for long term development of the squad, irrespective of the first team manager at the time, and is supposed to assert himself in terms of integration and development of talent.

Edu did not step in when Martinelli was being underplayed, and a good technical director would not have patience for Arteta’s bad tactics and selections for the two legs against Villarreal.

ā€œWeakā€ is probably an appropriate word. I think it is also debatable whether he should take credit for taking transfers to the finish line. He identifies targets and initiates contact with the selling club (or intermediaries), but from there Dick Garlick has full responsibility for negotiations.

Think we need to remember Edu is more technical director than Raul Sanllehi replacement, and assess his performance based on that.

Should we really be giving him credit for identifying such obscure targets as Thomas Partey, Ben White and James Maddison? Guy must be just burning through tape. :ozil:

I don’t think ā€œidentifyingā€ is a good choice of word… sounds like only he could see the goods in those players but no one else could

Balance of his dealings is slightly below average at this point.

It’s clear he doesn’t really have any special talent when it comes to getting rid deadwood. Even guys he’s signed we can only shift on frees or loans.

Likes of Mari, Cedric and Willian are worth less than what we initially paid. You’re allowed Ls but his hits aren’t anything that special tbh. Largely buying known quantities at or above market value doesn’t impress me.

Although I feel internal contracts are better, management seem to have their pulse on that. Pepe should be signed by now though

I’ve not seen anything in terms of talent ID or deals that make me think Edu is the right guy

He was supposed to have the measure of the South American market right? Especially important post Brexit.

Gabriel (defender) looks good but it’s not quite what we were sold in terms of extensive contacts with Brazil. I thought we’d be going hard on the prospects in their top flight and poaching them before they move to Benfica or Porto or Dortmund.

Isn’t that what we done with the other Gabriel

I expected a higher volume of players tbh. You definitely can’t say the talent isn’t out there, Brazil has most talented u23 side right now.

Kaio Jorge just signed for Juventus for like £2.5m clause laden deal

He was a Raul signing.

@sevchenko Totally agree. Even if we weren’t dealing with Brazilian clubs directly, a club like Lyon who has a decent tradition of Brazilian players and iirc a Brazilian technical director, seems like a logical trading partner.

Pretty sure I read Edu played a role in that one.

Edit- there’s a source

I don’t particularly like Edu but any influence he had with both Gabriel’s probably his best work. Not convinced he should be the main man though tho.

I stand corrected.

You’re right, the Gabriels are definitely impressive. I think the ASL signing is a great signal.

I’m less impressed with shelling out 1.6 Ramsdales on Ben White and 1 Ramsdale on Ramsdale.

Am increasingly concerned with Edu’s performance since he joined.

Has a penchant for signing past it compatriots from the Chavs on big money and has spent a fair chunk in the latest window for what is not a materially better looking squad and some holes in the squad left unfilled.

He’s a strong backer of Arteta too and this didn’t work out well last season so maybe his judgement is poor.

Becoming less and less impressed by the day although still feel he’s better than the really dreadful Sanhelli.

:joy::joy::joy: that tweet is cracking me up and I don’t even know why. Edu is torturing these Twitter nerds.

Edu really should be fired after this window. Yes, it’s not finished, yes, it’s a Covid market, but it’s just really poor.

The worst part is that he probably doesn’t care because there’s nobody at the club to fire him. Who does he actually report to? Vinai?
