More of that coming…
It’s just a huge myth that gets debunked every single year by any reasonable football fan.
The vast majority of top players in the league come from other countries. Yes having success in England means you are more likely to be able just to the physical side of the league but even then you still have to be able to adapt to an entirely new team, coaching staff, expectations, fans and all that jazz.
I don’t think it’s a myth actually, it’s just thrown about with no context or perspective.
Keeping it on topic, Eze was always a streaky player and we got a streaky player. He was proven in the sense that was good enough for Palace but nowhere good enough for us.
Him and Gyok together is a recipe for lacking any kind of ability to exert control over matches, especially with our other two starting midfielders running on fumes. A 10 who doesn’t help in the buildup or keep the ball and a striker who the ball doesn’t stick to either going long or to feet.
Having a truly successful next few months is going to rest largely on getting Odegaard and Havertz into enough fitness and form that at least one of them, if not both, can start the matches that we really need to exert control over. We aren’t winning the biggest trophies with Gyokeres and Eze through the middle.
Yeah brother Eberechi did not change my mind last night. Same with Gyökeres, both can be good and imo we know that because they’ve shown it elsewhere and they’re not young one-season-wonders, but it’s not working here, with us, the way we play.
That happens a lot in football, plenty of world beaters looked alright at best before making the move to wherever they turned into world beaters, imo this is the same concept the other way around. But regardless of why, I feel like we have a problem that needs fixing for us to consistently look good in attack again.
Then it doesn’t help that there isn’t a single other attacker in our squad that are on fire either. I mean you can have a squad of 7-8 attacking players and often times there’s always 2-3 who are game, in form whatever that means on their level, but right now we really do have none imo.. no one is banging in goals for fun, I’d say every single attacking player we have looks like.. at best a 6/10 by their own standards.
I thought Eze was fine. Most of our attacking players struggled to keep hold of the ball. He was the only one who wasn’t overawed by Brighton’s intensity. Did he do anything special? No, but nor did he do anything worth criticising
i have returned… had issues with my email from my original Ljungbergkamp and of course that makes it hard to manage accounts tied to it… but finally got my act together to return. A few quick thoughts on Eze (and related) and i’ll elaborate elsewhere:
-
He hasn’t been great generally, but does pop up occasionally with a performance.. against BHA he was above average for our team, which isn’t saying much tbh
-
He is more willing to try the one touch quick through ball and that is part of what we desperately need honestly… we get so bogged down in attack. HOwever, he isn’t technical enough to pull it off well enough frequently enough AND our team is shambolic in “connectedness” and movement in attack right now.
-
Added to 2, we are suddenly like a sieve when we lose possession in attack, giving the other team an easy, easy path into our final third… (thank god we are super solid there). This creates a bit more panic and tenseness, and also probably makes players more conservative and this creates vicious cycle.
We are clearly tired.. mistakes have started to create a bit more panic and nervousness, and atm it has manifested in a completely stale and awful attack, punctuated by incredibly frustrating lack of any meaningful hold up play on top.
Welcome back!
Just checking… have you turned into a massive gammon?
It just seems to be happening a lot lately with former members rejoining.
lol ummmm.. i hope not… i had been toying with it for a while, good and bad times just to a) celebrate or b) commiserate…
This year i don’t really care how we do it, i just want title and hopefully at least one other trophy. But i can’t help be a bit worried about our football… it does remind me just a little bit of the end of Wenger days - both boring horseshoe back and forth passing and horrible at stopping counter and recovering possession quickly.
TBH mostly been insanely busy with aging parents and work transitions.
Welcome back… that’s a name from the good ol’ days when BradyMagic was running riot. And yep, we still haven’t won another PL title.
Welcome back man ![]()
You could have gone with ljungbergkampires
I could understand when you missed it the first time but to miss it again…just wow mate
I prefer Ljungbergkampablo Fornals. Three of the greats in one name.
Eze is not a number 10 in the mold of Odegaard or Ozil/van der Vaart/Sneijder in the days of the past, in which those type of players have the ball and strings and dictate the play. That’s why he used be used on the left wing and we need to get another midfielder in. I think him and Hincapie (for at last what he has shown the past 5 or 6 games) are going to work really well together.
A brilliant player.
Insanely creative. I was a big fan.
too much dilution… my faves are probably still Fabregas and Henry, but i have very special place in my heart for Freddie (a fellow Swede) and Bergkamp, who was just the classiest footballer ever
Eze took it personally seeing some Tottenham loanees in the Mansfield squad ![]()
Yes please
It’d be great timing for him to pick up form for sure, not just at club level but for his England aspirations too.
The Man City slayer is coming into goal scoring form at the perfect time.
