Double swoop for him and Rabiot
I wouldn’t go that far
Perhaps he’s just not all that good.
Agreed. Wouldn’t say no to a loan but he’s essentially a project at this stage if we sign him permanently and if it doesn’t work out there’s nowhere for him to go unless a saudi club came in to save the day.
70M euro to Juve…
a true in-and-in striker, not yet 24.
worth the try
Martinelli/Jesus Vlahovic Saka
Rabiot Rice Odegaard
Get it done Edu!
Regarding Arsenal fans wanting to sign Vlahovic, it is clear that some Du san some don’t.
I think he has shown enough in Serie A, particularly with Fiorentina. Realistically you aren’t getting much for under 50m these days anyway.
I reckon Bournemouth are gonna be asking for that sort of figure for Solanke, perhaps more, and we already know about the Toney valuations so it isn’t like there is many cheaper options with some level of pedigree that jump out as good alternatives.
Who are we realisitcally going to have a shot at in the time-frame we are talking about?
If it’s a summer deal, then yeah I’d be expanding the scope a bit but for January I think you’d be hard-pressed.
I don’t think Vlahovic is the answer but hard to argue with this. Elite strikers are hard to come by as it is, and finding one in Jan is near impossible.
I suppose the way to look at this is, is Vlahovic better than Eddie? If the answer is yes, then getting him for 50 million in Jan, and getting rid of Eddie in the summer for 30 - 40 million, doesn’t sound like a bad option at all.
All this represents is a short term fix. We need a top quality striker. If Vlahovic isn’t the long term answer then it would be foolish to waste £50m or whatever transfer fee it is as this leaves us less money in the summer for the players we actually want.
Loan option much more sensible or we go all in for an actual target.
My point was to upgrade Eddie with Vlahovic. We might lose 10 million or so in the process but then we are upgrading a major position.
I don’t think he’s shown enough to say we should do whatever to sign him for £50m, that isn’t small money especially for us.
Failed to live up to the hype and profile wise not sure what he’s bringing to our link up play and it’s not like he’s been prolific since joining Juve, could be one of those guys who if he isn’t scoring isn’t doing a while lot else and then struggles to actually put up the requisite goals to compensate.
He’s an option sure but I’m not sold enough to say definitely sign him if he’s available for that kind of fee.
I’ve discussed about this before but the guy isn’t really wanted at Juve, people can say what they want about Allegri but good strikers have thrived under him before and for whatever reason he hasn’t, he isn’t even the main man for his national team(Mitrovic is), he appears to be a diva, he rejected us before, he’s on big wages and and we would habe to spend a hefty fee for him still(remember when they tried to force us to buy Arthur Melo for 20-30m).
Someone can say he used to be good for Fiorentina and that he is still young but then it starts sounding oddly familiar to Luka Jovic, and we all know how that turned out.
The other side of the profile argument is we either end up with another Jesus type guy who contributes in other areas but doesn’t score or we are looking at a guy who does both which then puts you in a higher category than 50m.
Sure, there’s the risk of him being the guy you describe and there’s also the possibility of him being the guy from the last 2 seasons he had at Fiorentina. There’s going to be an element of risk regardless.
Obviously I don’t mean sell players that are crucial to us but I think the situation of needing a forward during this season specifically and the low likelihood of any decent forwards being available makes it a pretty good deal to pursue.
I don’t think 50m is huge money for us either really, unless you’re talking with respect to FFP etc but in and of itself I don’t think it’s crazy money. It’s not nothing but we spent 80% of that on Fabio, we spent about that much in January last year too.
If we are in the midst of a summer window and looking at a forward, I’m casting the net wider but in the context of where we are at in the season and our situation, it’s hard to imagine many better opportunities for us.
If your main issue is “doing whatever we can to sign him” then fair dos, I’d probably revise that to something like “we should look very hard at a deal like this”.
Doesn’t seem to be highly rated anymore. His stock has dropped massively over the years.
Is he better than what we have? Dunno, but he’s a different profile of player.
Would ship Eddie out and bring this guy in, even if only as a stop gap. Can use Eddie to soften the £50m blow.
Quite the shame that football is at a state where good strikers are slim pickings.
His numbers at Juve are very average. 14 in 42 last season. 6 in 16 for the current season.
0.35 goals a game.
I don’t follow Serie A but Juve have been shit for a while now. Crap numbers playing for a struggling team.
We went after him hard before. Did we dodge a bullet like a we have with Mudryk?
£50m seems on the steep side still but I literally cannot think of anybody fucking else.
50m is definitely not steep and Mikel likes him. If he’s available, I’d expect it to happen.
I’m not sure how much he moves the needle but Vlahovic and Trossard as rotation options is definitely more Grealish/Alvarez; Jota/Gapko/Nunez than Trossard and Eddie is.
This is one of those where it’s absolutely not going to happen and we get ourselves wound up OA style, 10,000 posts later he’ll be turning out for Sporting Lisbon.
As others pointed out… I have huge doubts about him now. Seems he’s still living on his Fiorentina reputation.
I haven’t watched much of him at Juve, but if they want to sell a young, supposedly promising striker, knowing how dry the striker market is nowadays, surely he’s not that great.
The post addresses this and mentions the financial issues so the argument could go the other way in that they would be willing to part with their more valuable players because those are the ones who they can get the most money from to address their issues.
What was the situation a year or two back anyway? As far as I remember we weren’t ever that interested in the end, or we never really made any tangible approach.
I didn’t pay too much attention so might be completely wrong here.
