Declan Rice (done and dusted)

He sent us all in panic mode last week when he broke the news of City’s bid first and then later on reported that City were close to an agreement with West Ham.
He pretty much said Rice was heading to City.

Yeah I personally doubt they did it to help us, but I can see a world where they would. Because if they really wanted Rice, they would’ve bought him without a moment’s hesitation. The fact that they didn’t even increase the total amount on our bid, speaks volumes imo.

This was the one that stroke fear into us @Blink.

He’s never been a reliable source anyway

No?
He’s probably the best when it comes to Italian news? Fabrizio rips most of his stuff from him.

Personally, I think that’s the key here. Italian news, think he dipped his toes into foreign territory and got burned.

Damn I never saw this, thankfully. What a prick.

Why?

Pep/Arteta relationship perhaps. Clubs help each other out all the time. Like any other business partnership. Though given that we’re both challenging for championships, I don’t expect it to happen often.

When do clubs help each other out in auch a fashion?

It isn’t like any other business partnership because Arsenal and City do not have a partnership.

As you go on to say, we are rivals. The idea that City would help us sign one of the league’s best midfielders is genuonely ridiculous if not backed up by anything. It doesn’t make any sense.

That’s fair.

Though now I question… why did Man City offer a bid that was almost the same as ours? They clearly weren’t serious; unless they were just feeling it out.

I dunno, it just seems strange to me that Man City would offer a bid that wasn’t an improvement over the 2 bids from Arsenal. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a lot of backroom dealings happening. Like a ‘if you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours’ kinda thing.

maybe City would pay up to £100m incl add ons and no more and we value him more…

not that much of a head scratch. At a certain price City want him above a certain price they dont.

You go view a house, you want it at £500k, but at £525k you don’t…simple economics

I think its simple

They got the official word from Rice and his camp that he only wants Arsenal.
The bid tested that and once they knew there was no point carrying on

18 months!? Jesus christ, West Ham — what the actual fuck. That’d literally stop us from spending anything for at least 2 windows.

It’s cash on hand I guess, but it all gets amortized anyways in terms of impact on books. I wonder if phased payments get amortized differently…

Even at 90m it was a robbery. This is something else all together. We are being taken to the cleaners. Better hope we don’t need any reinforcements in January to secure Top 4.
