There was only one window of reckless spending by Wenger and that was because of several seasons of under investment, where the team had got so poor he panicked.

Like I said before, he paid 90m for Xhaka, Mustafi and Perez, who he could have got a couple of seasons before for around half that.

But because of his stubbornness and lack of investment he ended up in a situation where he was forced to spend big due to him being pushed into a corner.

The only time Wenger was reckless was when he had to make panic buys, because the team had stagnated.
This then cost the club considerably more than if he had a planned transfer strategy and it also left us going into almost every season totally unprepared.

I don’t know any other manager of a top club that repeatedly threw away so many seasons because of a failure to prepare for the first games adequately.
