I don’t mind Welbeck.
He is a hard working but limited player.
Too often injured, too inconsistent but, because he is versatile and can play in most attacking positions, very decent cover.
Yet another player on world class wages, that is nowhere near that level.
With Welbeck, Ramsey, Ospina, Cech and maybe Elneny or Mkhitayran off the wage bill, perhaps we can start getting in players that will take us forward.
I’ve read 70k in many places (less than we’re supposedly about to pay doozi ) but I’ve also seen as high as 110 reported.
Welbeck was the cheap option we went for when we should have been signing an Aubameyang but in fairness he always put in a shift and he celebrated that goal against united so he’s OK by me.
Fitness record and the wages he would demand means we’ve made absolutely the right choice.
Another important squad player that needs to be replaced well. Okay he was injured for most of the season but his absence made us too reliant upon other mediocre players. He would have been a welcome tonic to seeing twerk queen Iwobi’s shitty step overs.
I’d rather we sold Iwobi and Mkhitaryan before Welbeck, but those two are staying so Welbz has to go.
I don’t think you’ll find many world class players on 100k, and even if you can find a couple of outliers, generally speaking world class players these days are on anything between two and five times as much as that.
If he had a clean bill of health, I’m sure he would be sticking around. He’s absolutely a player Emery would utilise in this squad. He’s not prolific, I’m sure he would notch more than Iwobi could in goals during a season but he offers a hell of a lot of tough work on the wings, something I think Unai needs as balance.
No Mkhitaryan and no Aaron Ramsey. With Welbeck now fit, anyone see Emery giving him the Jorginho task ahead of Brother Mesut? It sounds crazy but what is life without a little crazy, eh?
The Jorginho task is basically following him around and making sure the ball goes to every else but him. Ramsey did it to good effect at the Emirates and it pretty much killed Chelsea’s system.
Not even how sure how that statement even works when the win still had us in third after that weekend ffs Granted it was a great moment and it put us two points from Leicester, but I’m still surprised to this day, how many people felt we were gonna win the League after that game.
I just remember my emotions were more of relief and fairly chuffed we won and closed the gap. but there were still 12 matches left and it just felt way too soon, to think we were gonna do it, based on past experience of us messing up several occasions in the League, so I was quite cautious still. Then of course, surprise surprise the game, it all went to absolute shit when we lost to Man Utd next game against an injury hit team and confidence in the team died soon after
You can always rely on Everton or West Ham to clean up our mess, and give us good money for it as well.
I think both of those clubs just send a lorry to drive round the Emirates stadium with a bloke hanging out of the window, ringing a bell, while we’re inside collecting all our scrap players together and running after him, throwing our unwanted players onto it.
Best part about having this player at Arsenal was we got to hear @Cristo ‘s hotel room story.
Other than that, lovely guy, wish him well. If he does play any part in the final it’s indicative we’re in a poor position, but you never know. He could write his name properly into Arsenal folklore.
I’m hoping Fraser -> Welbeck is the first of a few significant squad upgrades to come
