All it took us to get CL last season was like a couple more draws instead of losses. And do u recall how shit we looked? Those couple results wouldn’t paper over the cracks. I can’t imagine the club extending him if we look as shit as we did last year after probably more than £100m investment this summer.
If Emery gets top 4 and there’s a genuine improvement in the quality of performances then he deserves a third season. If we get 4th through default of other teams being shit and we’re still leaking goals for fun and looking totally disjointed - he should be moved on.
Does he have an option of 3rd season clause? I seem to recall it.
But even then, if he does well this season then there’s a chance he’s given a real contract of 2 or 3 years so it’s not necessarily black and white. If they think he’s doing the job they want then they won’t want to risk losing him.
I’m happy to give him a chance this year. I remember Guardiola making some terrible choices in his first season at City, but a lot of that was what he was trying to do with the players that were there and once the players changed it all worked.
Guardiola did have a higher XP goals/points though. I don’t think Emery has. I did like what Emery did against Spurs/United/Chelsea league games though.
With or without Emery, Sanhelli et al. have made it so that Arsenal have become kind of an interesting follow again with this young core. Obviously it can still all end up in an big disappointment.
I guess with Iwobi and Eddie going(plus ESR) it helps this guy’s case to get more minutes. Reckon he will be used at LM if needed. Should be able to do a job there.
I saw that as a good thing though, he’s not about the simple pass, he wants to play ball. After he got his early fluffs out of the way he actually gave us an entirely new dimension. Toon didn’t know how to handle him.
