Saul and Mata left Madrid as youth team players having never featured even once for the first team.
Ozil, Kaka and James were international superstars and left as they were replaced by newer galactico projects. Also the impact they’ve had after leaving RM is highly questionable.
And I can’t believe you threw in the names of journeymen Morata and Jese in there. Even in our current state both of them will barely make the bench.
My point is not that Ceballos is not a good enough player, it is that the club has fallen so far from grace that we are at the mercy of the likes of Madrid and Barca to loan us their cast-offs so that we make up first team numbers.
All of those players were cast offs. Morata/Jese would be a big improvement over Iwobi despite the fact neither worked out at Chelsea or PSG. Mata and Saul like Ceballos weren’t good enough to break into the first team but is good enough to be top players in other teams.
We’re not bringing in Ceballos to make numbers, we’re getting him in to improve the first team. I don’t see any reason to complain, we have a good player that improves us for a year. Best case scenario he likes it here, Real don’t need him back and we do a deal next summer. If it doesn’t work out we’re under no obligation to buy. Even if another club buys him, we haven’t lost any investment.
Yeah i doubt he’ll displace Xhaka. Emery was talking about him earlier and said he can play 8 or 10, so he’ll take some of Ramsey’s minutes and i’d imagine Özil will lose out – maybe Özil can play the home games and Ceballos can play any away games north of the Watford Gap.
Jese couldn’t cut it at PSG, Betis and even Stoke City. Morata doesn’t even play the same position and has been a joke for the last 2 years, but sure both will be an improvement on Iwobi, who by the way isn’t even a guaranteed first team player.
Mata left Madrid when he was 18 and Saul left when he was 13, not sure what first team opportunities they were looking for.
But this is not even my argument.
This is where the problem lies. We lost a first team player/ possibly our best midfielder and we are trying to replace him with a player who hasn’t been able to cut it at Madrid, is unproven at the top level and even if he comes good, we won’t be able to retain him next year so we’ll have to disrupt the team and begin the whole process again next season.
This method of transfer business is usually associated with mid-table/ relegation fodder teams who loan players from better clubs in hope that they come good and can get them out of a scrap without having to fork out a big amount. We are amongst the top 10 richest clubs in the world and if we can’t even afford to buy a decent player for the most important position on the pitch, I don’t know why are we even in this business.
How on earth are RM treating him so badly, after what looks like a beast of a player? Zidane doesn’t like him much I’ve heard but you would think they would overlook that given his profile.
I’m hoping there’s a chance to permanently sign him after this season because he’s exactly the right age and profile we should be looking to have in our midfield.
Need to really improve otherwise a few mailings early on like the end of last season and a loan player is not going to be the most commited to the cause.
Need to get the necessary reinforcement in because we won’t just wing things on deals like this.
Get the money out Arsenal because you won’t and can’t cheat the system.
Or C) He does well and we’re the biggest club interested in him, we get him for a reasonable fee. His stock continues to sore and we sell him back to Real for 200m in 2024
Depending on how certain things will develop we don’t know what the exact voids will be in 20/21 season. As of now I can say we should starting too look out for a Ozil replacement, but other than that a lot depends on how Holding/Nketiah/Martinelli will develop. It might just be that replacing Ceballos is priority anyway.
@BigWeng_4LYFE Emery is never going to choose Guendouzi over Xhaka.
It’s frustrating but you just have to accept this is the way things are for now, Gazidis, Wenger and co fucked the club over and it’s going to take time to remove the rot and malaise they left unchecked to fester.
We need to get back into the CL by any means necessary and bringing in someone like Ceballos could very well help in this regard, we may not have a buy back clause inserted but even if there was one it wouldn’t exactly be cheap.
If we somehow manage to get CL football and Ceballos is a big part of that our chances of signing him are pretty good , there will always be a new shiny thing in that midfield position at Real and Ceballos isn’t even one of their own that came up from the youth level. To be frank I don’t see Ceballos lasting at Real no matter how well he does for us, if they get Pogba it’s a wrap on his long term future there.
If we get CL we can spend 100 mil. That is still nothing compared with City. Whilst I think Wenger wasn’t good at all in his last ~9 years here Arsenal probably needs a new owner to be a contender again.
