Contrast that to us meek Brits who have taken every fucking shafting the Tories have given us in the last 13 years and just continued electing them.
None of that stiff upper lip, keep calm and carry on bollocks, they make sure their leaders know that if it ultimately comes down to it they still know how to construct a guillotine.
I’d love to see the reaction to a French government introducing legislation limiting protest like the Tories did.

I get the support for focused, consistently applied mass protest but the Palais Rohan would be grade 1 listed building in the UK.
There’s nothing dignified or respectable in destroying your own community and cultural heritage.

Now a Town Hall was destroyed, well done! Burning things down, that’s definitely a way to improve things…
Why don’t we just say if others have more than us, we burn it down so everyone has nothing, that will make everyone equal and definitely lead to improvement of poorer members of society. Burning things down impacts underprivileged and middle class far more than it does affluent people.

OK - so burning down the Town Hall or any building is the way to reduce/maintain the pension age…come on
If people had sufficient wealth themselves they wouldn’t be reliant on the pension/pension age and would not feel the need to protest (so of course it is about inequality) - how many wealthy people or individuals with sufficient private pensions do you think were there protesting?.

Well, yeah, quite possibly, it often works when the French public go wild and start rioting. Remains to be seen if it works this time.
But really I was just commenting on your mini rant about burning things down so everybody has nothing and how that will make everything equal and how it’s not really relevant here, because these French people aren’t burning buildings and rioting in the expectation that inequality will be solved as a result, that’s not the aim or motivation here.
They simply aren’t rioting because of the existence of inequality, but your post very much seemed to come from a place of suggesting that’s why they are doing this.
How the tables have turned from the reputation the French have for supposedly being cowards. They don’t put up with shit like the Brits do that’s for sure.

As funny as the surrender joke is, it’s not really true. They didn’t “give up” in WW2, they and the British were completely outmanoeuvred and beaten very easily. The French then had a pretty organised resistance that was very active throughout the war in both the Nazi occupied zone and Vichy France, liberated Paris and when the Germans were driven out joined the allied invasion of Germany.
