That’s rather hypocritical of Boehly to say their supporters need to be patient when it’s his impatience that has seen them waste 600m on the wrong players and make hasty managerial choices.

But he’s naive if he thinks the most entitled plastic supporters in Europe will give any new manager more than a few games before they see a difference.

Not sure if we’ve noted this yet on here, but Koulibaly spent the best part of a decade at Napoli, and fucked off just before they won a historic scudetto, all so he could sit in 12th place instead :joy:

Maybe his departure was just what Napoli needed…

Well Kim was better this season than Koulibaly was last season, ADL knows when to let the shackles off

I have no beef with Koulibaly but I do quite enjoy this lol

In fairness to Koulibaly he’s apparently on Ā£295k compared the Ā£180k a week at Napoli so I’m sure that softens the blow.

I reckon he ends up at Juventus even though he’s fallen off a bit in the right setup he still has the right defensive mindset to have a good career. Chelsea have been a disaster so I can’t even hold it against him

I was debating (with myself) about writing a long post about how pretty much everything Boehly has done over the last 12 months has been a mistake.

But to fix it, I think it’s simple. We need a good manager who will clear out the dead wood (and there is alot of it), get the team organised and playing closer to their ability and develop/improve young players (of which there are many at Chelsea now).

Despite the horrible form and horrible decisions that have been made over the last 12 months (and all the money wasted), I think a good manager could turn things around fairly quickly (if backed properly/left alone).

What do you make of some of the more bullish/delusional reports that Chelsea is looking for big returns on some of the deadwood?

I take it you’re delighted with the impending appointment of Pochettino

I’d have to see what reports you are refering to to comment. Every team has their share of bullish/deluded fans

I wrote this on a Chelsea forum

"Back when Pochettino was at Spurs I considered him and Klopp to be the two best managers in England at least if not the world (at the time).

Both came in to struggling teams, revatilised them and had them outperforming their wage expectations (read soccernomics, wages paid is a 90% predictor of league finish and teams rarely outperform many years in a row).

At the time I edged it to Klopp because when he came into Liverpool he managed to do it with largely the same players who were already there (only really Sturridge didn’t make it). Whereas Pochettino ditched a few players along the transition (Soldado, Capoue, Paulinho, Gylfi Sigurdsson).

Liverpool of course went on to back Klopp in buying Alisson, van Dijk and others, which helped push them on to being a (sadly) top team. Whereas Pochettino was starved at Tottenham once going (I think) 18 months without a signing while they were building their new stadium.

Klopp is clearly a world class manager and we all (begrudgingly) know it. But I am personally of the belief that Pochettino is far better than most here give credit.

He was my choice last time (when the majority here voted they wanted Potter), and he remains my first choice this time. I think with a young squad and some actual proper backing (which he just didn’t get at Tottenham), he can turn the ship around here. "

I will be add (here on OnlineArsenal forum now) that I think De Zerbi could be amazing (but ideally could do with a bit more of a track record first). But even more than before, with a bloated, underperforming and most importantly, young, squad. It’s kind of set up perfectly for Pochetino (much more than 9ish month ago when we went for Potter).

It’s the type of posts you’d see on reddit. Some user says ā€œOh Chelsea will be fine. They’re gonna sell Sterling, Cucurella, Lukaku, RLC, Pullisic and recoup 200mā€

I can’t see Chelsea being able to get out from under some of these contracts without taking massive losses or just canceling them with a payout.

Curious to know your thoughts on Mason Mount’s situation?

Only concern with Poch would be you have a lot of attacking talent and whether he’d make the most of that with his style of play.

Chelsea should build around Mudryk and Madueke, get a proper striker and go from there. Spent too much of random shit that doesn’t make sense when paired.

Recruitment has been pathetic. Way too many players, signed too quickly without proper planning or due diligence on how they would fit into the dressing room and maintain team cohesion. So much money has been wasted.

I really think it (Chelsea’s future sucess) depends on whether the ridiculous recruitment policies settle down and the next manager closes the underpeformance gap. Despite all the negativity, the squad itself is still good (albeit super unbalanced and in need of focus). Chelsea could easily be a top 4 team again next season without any new signings (or perhaps just a new number 9).

As for Mount, I hope he stays. He’s a Chelsea boy (youth team graduate) and the kind of player who would probably excel under Pochettino. There are many many players that deserve to be shown the door ahead of him.

Pochettino is a top manager but I’m not sure he’s suited for an owner like Boehly, who seems to want to be involved with the running of the team and player recruitment, as well as the business side.
Boehly wants success and wants it quickly and Pochettino isn’t that type of manager.

Also, at some point FFP will start looking at Chelsea so any more big transfers that Pochettino wants to bring in will be out of the question, especially with Man City being investigated.

I do too. Really don’t want him anywhere near us.

I don’t necessarily agree with your assumptions here. Boehly has made alot of mistakes but i’m not convinced they align with the ones you seem to be suggesting.

makes sense, thanks. I think your point in a later post about the squad lacking cohesion might prove a bit of an issue yeah.
