Wimbledon FC uprooted to Milton Keynes and became the MK Dons. That is what the old club was cannibalised into.
AFC Wimbledon is a breakaway club, with no affiliation to the historical club apart from the fanbase it’s brought along with it.

But the club near Chelsea is still called Wimbledon, which was my point 
To add, Joshua: The NHL, too, has had it’s share. The Atlanta Thrashers becoming the Winnipeg Jets, the Atlanta Flames becoming the Calgary Flames, the Quebec Nordiques becoming the Colorado Avalanche (there’s the Arsenal connection). The whole idea of moving a franchise lock, stock and barrel thousands of miles is just so cringeworthy to me.

Well it’s very North American. Baseball teams moved all the time going way way back. There was a Baltimore Orioles baseball team that eventually moved to New York and became the Yankees. It’s just a total different way of looking at what a sports team is.
I think in European football, for the most part, it’s seen as an extension of the community emphasized by the academy system. In North American sports because of the draft system, you may have players who just happen to end up at their hometown clubs or sign as free agents but the team is just the team. It’s not a club or athletic association with a bunch of random departments like judo, cycling, netball and e-sports.

With the salary structure of the MLS… they can’t keep that many star players and would be just another so and so team.
Even if Real Madrid would love to come, they would turn into Real Salt Lake
