Chelsea

Obviously. No one is saying otherwise. But if what he does to help Chelsea and to help himself also happens to help the lower league clubs a bit then that is a bonus that shouldn’t be sniffed at.

To be fair to Klopp, he has seen American businessmen buying up PL clubs and they haven’t exactly endeared themselves to the supporters.
No American comes here because they love football.
The greed is transparent.

Yeah I bet he hates American owners. He’d never put up with that.

Isn’t that the argument used for the ESL as well though.
Nobody’s buying this as even part of his reasoning.

I’m sure they won’t care. But does that for some reason mean I can’t have an opinion on the idea?

Money will always rise to the top. Rather than trying to force it down, we should invest at the bottom, and let it travel up.

The ESL is a bigger change to the footballing landscape that a one off game though.

And like I said, it’s not the actual idea I’m supporting anyway.

That said, is there really a need for 92 football clubs in England?
I would say it simply dilutes the amount of funds that could be given to the lower clubs.

There are a lot more than 92 football clubs in England

Which is ridiculously excessive for such a moderate size country.
The funds will be better used if there were less clubs to go around.

Be better all around with a realistic restructuring.
The EFL are poor and the amount of bad owners in English football with shit governance has been a reason for it.

Klopp’s always salty, just this time he’s right.

Brazil has a shit ton of football clubs but since they eat into a very small piece of revenue stream, 15-20 clubs dissolve every year.

It’s nice to have lower level clubs to encourage competitiveness but the quality will always take a hit.

Well hence the restructuring need. No need for dissolved clubs.
The purpose of a football club transcends success and talent levels. However taking that into consideration all sports are better when on a level playing competition.
There are clubs in the championship who would gain nothing from being promoted to the PL.
Apart from the windfall of cash.
In some cases now clubs like WBA and Norwich are defined by their ritual relegations.
It’s not right or good for all involved. Only so many times as a fan you want to watch that. In the end you end up with kids in those places adopting the big 6 club.
That probably happens anyway nowadays but with a requisite competition for their local club interest could be shared at least.

Why would you not have football clubs? People want to play football. People want to support their local team and not just teams from Greater Manchester and London. Most of them are not professional or are semi professional.

Think any man that works for a company that’s been at the centre of destroying the “tradition” and “fabric” of the game shouldn’t really be taking shots at anyone who has his own ideas.

Sky and the Premier League changed the game forever. For better or for worse they’ve created a financial bubble that attracts the very people guys like Neville are trying to criticise. The English game hasn’t been “the English game” for a very long time. It’s a foreign league, with a massive global audience that far exceeds the domestic one and it’s a league full of foreigners and their foreign owners. We’ve got Saudi state backed teams, UAE backed teams, Russian backed teams.

Now I’m not saying Boehly’s ideas are any good but anyone is welcome to throw new ideas into the mix.

Sky is not innocent lol

There should have been calls for proper regulation in 1992

They only want a regulatory body now because their own interests are at risk of being compromised.
