Cesc Fabregas

Having said that, what Gerrard did in 2006, Fabregas could never do.

Gerrard is underrated tbh

Hes not defined by that slip though. Scoring goals in League cup, FA cup, Uefa cup and CL finals and a hundred caps tells you he was a top class performer.
He quite simply was one of those players who was the difference in matches that mattered.

He will be remembered for never winning the Premier League. When the biggest opportunity came around in this career. He slipped. That is his legacy.

No he won’t

Yes he will.

The fact that there were voices from Liverpool fans about giving him a 10-day contract this season says enough about that lol.

Only in your eyes. The only reason he’s hated by United and City fans so much is because he’s that damn good.

United people hate everything that comes out of Liverpool.

I can’t imagine they hate Stephen Wright as much as they do Steven Gerrard

No, I don’t think it is only in his eyes. That slip isn’t the sole moment that defines his career, he’s too good a player and has achieved too much for it to be the one defining thing. But it is one of the things that defines his career for a lot of people.

When people mention Gerrard one of the very first things I think of is that slip haha. No, it isnt fair in terms of reflecting the great career he had, but it’s a fact that because he had such a great career it will always be at least in part defined by the one thing him and his team never could manage to win, which is the league. And that slip perfectly encapsulates all of that, unluckily for him it’s just the most enduring and hilarious of images, him on all fours while Demba Ba races away.

Its a truly iconic moment for everyone who hates Liverpool, so basically everyone. One of my favourite Premier League moments without a doubt.

I’m meant to disagree with about Gerrard and then you added that last paragraph :joy:

No he wont. In the same way John Terry wont be remembered for missing the penalty in the shoot out.
The body of work surpasses that.

Terry wasn’t the only one missing a penalty. I think Anelka missed one too. What helped for Terry is that Chelsea for the CL four years later, even though he didn’t appear in the final.

Yeah and what helps Gerrard is scoring and leading his team back from three down and lifting the trophy.
I’ll go as far to say that’s what defines him as a top player.
His slip goes down with other top players who have made that big game error and there’s plenty of them.

Personally I can never remember Gerrard by that slip… absolutely insignificant for me when rating him as a player. First of all because it was when he was way past his prime as a player, when he lost almost all his athleticism that defined him as a player in his prime.

I’ll remember him as an one man army player who dominated the world football from 2004 until about 2010. Absolutely one of the best players in the world in that period.

He would have walked into all 3 sides midfields Dave.

I think with 13 pl goals that season that was the second most in his career. The system could have helped with that or the drop off wasn’t that great? Gerrard was supposed to be one of the greatest leaders of all time. That does make that slip matter lol.

Enjoy how much he delights in sticking it to Spurs. Almost makes me want to forgive him…almost. :santi:
