I remember watching a pre game warm up season years back where Oxlade and Chambers were just effortlessly smashing these outside of the foot passes to each other across the pitch. Fair enough there was no pressure but it was really skillfull, proper Merse type stuff that not everyone can do.
People moan on about AMN but I genuinely think the real midfield who’s prospects we fucked was Chambers. Lad was just unlucky to be at the club during a period we didn’t have a fucking clue what we were doing.
Its saddening how little this guy was used here in the end, arguably one of the most talented players we’ve ever had. I saw him as a bit of a mix between a prime Didier Zokora and a young Ashley Cole.
Unfortunately for us, it seems Villa are enjoying the fruits that come with his talent finally blossoming. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Villa get a big offer for him over the next couple of years and he ends up punishing us for a side like United.
Chambers was unable to beat out the likes of Cedric, Holding, and Elneny for minutes at various positions, but he leaves us, scores one nice goal, and all of a sudden he’s an English Xabi Alonso.
I have a very good buddy who was an alleged Zulu warrior Birmingham City fan although now he’s an accountant in Switzerland now earning a ridiculously high income.
He taught me the shit on the Villa song nearly 30 years ago. I remember many a shit on the Villa choruses in our younger heavy drinking days.
The great thing is, that song extends to the entire West Midlands. You could find yourself at a Coventy v Baggies game and both sets of fans singing it -

Chambers was always a risk when picked. I’ve rarely seen such a ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ type of player. On a good day he was a very good squad option for us, on a bad day a total disaster.
Thought we had bagged a gem when we made that signing. Their academy had a strong reputation around that time with quite a few promising youngsters breaking into the first team squad. As is the case with quite a few of our players, a serious injury or two hindered his progress.
Doesn’t look that happy joining Cardiff, but I hope he does well there. I always thought he was a PL defender. The move to Villa didn’t help. He really needed to go to a club where he would be in the starting lineup. If all else fails I suppose there is always OnlyFans
