That’s exactly what it is imo. Bayern are so desperate for good PR right now that they’d do anything to try to take the shine off what is a monumentally bad run of decisions, including having Tuchel stay the rest of the season.
I really rate the work being done by Xabi Alonso but the hype around who will get him has become a bit out of control. If you look a bit deeper into Leverkusen’s season its apparent that they have been propelled by not just very good performance but also huge XG outperformance and remarkable health (out of their top 16 players, only three have been injured all season and those injuries weren’t to the most critical players and never overlapped in the same position).
Anybody who dethrones Bayern deserves huge plaudits but he isn’t some kind of magic manager who has cracked football. At least on advanced metrics his team isn’t in a different category than Nagelsmann’s RBL or some BvB sides of the recent past. Everything is going his way at the same time that everything is going against Bayern.
I think there is a pretty good case that the most impressive performance by a manager outside the PL this year is actually Inzaghi not Alonso.
I believe it is more like a Bayern fuck up, but still, big credit to Xabi.
His good job started last season, not this one.
Are German fans happy with this level of uncompetitiveness?
He’ll still get a statue made of recycle asprin bottles outside their stadium. Dude will be a total legend for that club.
Bayern are so boring the way they poach whoever gets close to them in their league and cannibalise all competition.
Xabi Alonso ffs.
That’s the cheapest way.
What happened? Did he agree a deal or something?
It’s them or Liverpool. No deal agreed but let’s see
It’s one of the downsides of the 50+1 rule I think. Nobody will ever be able to match them over a sustained period.
When Dortmund ran them close what did they do? Took Lewandowski and Gotze.
It’s not too far off from what Juventus did over the last decade. Roma or Napoli finish second? Take their best players. Hell, they even took Napoli’s coach one season.

Good news for the league imo
Smart thinking by Alonso - has something really good going there.
Leverkusen for another season or two then off to Madrid seems the logical steps.
Dunno who exactly it was but someone in here called it.
I’ll take credit.
Is Madrid job not available this summer?
Carlo gonna win title, still in CL QF and just signed an extension, why would it be avail?
Madrid are mad but not that mad.
Bayern trailing BVB 0-1, about 20 mins left.
Dortmund get a 2nd
While Leverkusen scored twice ilate to keep their unbeaten run intact
This is why we shouldn’t fear Bayern
