This kid has literally come from our academy to first team, to being an International star in just two and a bit years.
He will cry tonight but he’s got such a great future ahead of him. Like @JakeyBoy said, I’m hoping Arsenal twitter can shield him from the online abuse he’ll no doubt receive from keyboard warriors.
Southgate said he picked the takers tonight (weirdly before Sterling and Shaw but there you go), so fair play to Saka for not backing down.
I’m honestly hopeful that he won’t even get abuse on a wide scale.
I might be the biggest drunken fool around, but I just have this feeling that this time round there won’t be a massive blame culture/witch hunt, and people will just accept that the boys did a great job and reaching a final was basically an historical achievement in and of itself.
How could anyone have a go at a nineteen year old, who we all thought came along to make up the numbers in the first place, for missing a penalty whem more senior players clearly didn’t fancy it?
If Southgate picked the takers than I’d take back what I said about Jack Grealish and Sterling being cowards. Maybe they did volunteer and he went with Saka and Sancho instead.
Sterling was absolutely dead on the field in the second half of extra time, struggling to bloody walk, annoying why Henderson was replaced and not him. Understand why he didn’t take a penalty tbf
The thing is, you can still be concentrated and have a penalty saved. Yeah it wasn’t great but it isn’t like he completely made a mess of it, it happens. I don’t think it’s even fair to make it about how confident he was or wasn’t.
Don’t fall into the Xhaka fallacy and take anything anyone says on social media seriously. Edgelords online are gonna say edgy things for a reaction and it usually ends up being a 12 year old kid.
As much as it pleased me to see England lose I didn’t want all that falling on our boy Saka that was brutal, not fair for him to be put into that position.
