I don’t know about this man, unlike a lot of matches from the 80s, I still find it very watchable. Obviously as you say athletically it’s nothing special especially because of how much pain Andre was in.
But he still had a presence that no other giant has come near (apart from maybe Yokozuna in his first year). Even Andre being knocked off balance feels huge and the match is so over with the fans it’s impossible not to feel it a bit.
I actually never saw the match in full until I was in my teens during the attitude era and it still really got me.
It had more life in it than last week’s. I thought they were going to connect the dots between Cena and Rock and say whether they’re actually aligned. Maybe they’ll leave that ambiguous until the night itself.
Only thing I didn’t like was how Gunther ran away from Jey when Jey is supposed to be one struggling to live up to the potential of facing Gunther at Mania
