BOOZE

Went downhill long ago, then. Of course, I’m talking 60 years ago when it came in bottles. A ‘white shield’ label, and ‘red’ or ‘green’ (can’t remember which) shield. Anyway, the white shield had to be poured very carefully so as not to disturb the 1/4” of sediment in the bottle.

I think a lot of mass-market beers were ruined in the 60s/70s with the advent of corporate takeovers and the sudden surge to lagers - in general what was termed Eurofizz. CAMRA, of which I was a very early member, was a godsend rebelling against the trend, and can largely be thanked for the push to keep small, local breweries alive and the ensuing choice of craft beers today.

I’ve got the Barista Pro version of this (branded Sage in the UK), replaced my trusty delonghi. Excellent piece of kit!

I can dig those CAMRA beard-strokers. I occasionally met up with members at various beer festivals around Sussex. One or two I knew that were brewing and trying to set up business, and that was more than 20 years ago.

The craft beer scene is pretty good in the U.S. some nice breweries around Atlanta, where I live, but the best ones I’ve encountered are around Michigan where my in-laws live.

We’re on our second Breville after the previous one died whilst in storage when the family moved from L.A. (we stayed a while in Traverse City, MI whilst house hunting). Loved ours so much, and coupled with our reliance on caffeine, bought the same model as it did the job.
I donated the old one to my brother-in-law and typically, within a few days, he got it back working as good as new.

This evening’s pairing: A good rum is the perfect complement with banoffee pie.

Banoffee pie was invented at a Michelin star restaurant called The Hungry Monk close to where I grew up. Sadly it closed down (quite a while ago now) and converted into a group of cottages.

Anyone got one of these, or used one? Not a Guinness man myself, but thinking it’d make a good gift for someone who is this month

Have used it. It’s still not as good as out of a real tap, but it does the job

Looks like a conversion kit to make the can an aerosol.

Can you guess which beverage I opted for?

That’s the only time var is gonna get a 4/5 rating.

How do you call this??
It looks cool

It’s called nitrosurge. I keep meaning to get one and then not getting one.

It is super cool but only work for Guinness…

Never a beer person and have you tried Brewdog as well?
Internet says the nitro surge cam be used on BD Black Heart also … and taste better than Guinness.

The Black Heart tasteike coffee and I may give this a try.
With this super cool device

It’s a free country and i support your right to use the nitrosurge device however you like.

Less of this nonsense though please.

I did not try it, just found that from Google.

Regardless of source my point stands. Good day.

I go get a can of Guinness tonight and try

You need to a certain can of Guinness. Doesn’t work on any old can

It actually does. If the can has a widget you pierce the can with a pin and keep the pin in it and let the nitrogen leak out without activating the widget. I do this with cans with widgets works well with the Brewdog black heart comes out real nice

What is your experience with Black Heart?

Just a gimmick or similar to Guinness??
