Lol
I want to learn more about WWII, where do I apply to the council for a nice Hitler statue in the middle of my town?
Funny how some of the strongest condemnations of that statue having a nice long bath have been from Patel and Javid
This reminds me of when ISIS and The Taliban blew up historic religious statues and monuments tbh
Youāre applying the lense of modern ethics to someone of different time with different outlooks. This is someone who grew up in a dog eat dog world where there were no rules or social state. He was an industrialist who travelled the world to trade commodites and did it incredibly successfully. He traded with Africans who sold him commodities, which included slave labour. He purchased them from Africa because Africans were more ready to enslave and sell slaves than European people.
Ethically heās no different to a modern day Jeff Bezos or Mike Ashley who treat their workers as much like slave labour as the letter of the law allows
No mate, itās definitely worse to enslave people, trade their lives, split up families, ship them round the world and deny them the most basic of human rights.
Ethically Mike Ashley being a cunt who doesnāt pay you very well and has you work in shit conditions is not the same thing.
Working while being in modern day poverty is not much better than living as a slave. Especially if we compare it era to era. Both are exploiting the worker and letting them life in intolerable poor conditions
This man didnāt create slavery. He didnāt personally enslave anyone though from my knowledge, he purchased slaves that were already split up from their families in service as slaves. While now itās unethical, back then it was seen as a valid business.
If Bezos or Ashley could abuse their workers more so, they probably they would. The only reason you consider them ethically superior is because we have laws to force them to treat their workers better.
My sister got an interview at Amazon and turned the job down because during the interview process she saw the way they treated their worked as inhumane
Thereās shitloads of injustices right now that arenāt talked about because most people only care about the causes that are fashionable
Now trying to burn the British flag on the cenotaph and defacing Churchills statue. Great.
The Government are really letting the police down at the moment. Our police are no ability to assert control, too scared.
Cunts are letting down the people of the UK more like.
Probably wasnāt wise to cut the police force by 20,000 to save a few quid.
Yeah thatās really rather unpleasant.
I dunno they are talking about defunding the police here altogether⦠might work.
āRun piggy runā
What is the reputation of the police there in the UK? Here we pretty much know our police are a gangster organization funded by the government. I want to defend them for certain things because some of the criticism against them is over the top but then they go around doing drive by pepper sprayings to ppl just standing in the streetā¦completely indiscriminately, its actually fucking unfathomable. I guess they maybe get the feeling that everyone is against them right now and they are curling up into a self defensive ball and becoming even worse than normal like a wounded animal. The calls for them to be defunded are getting louder and picking up steam, but from what I hear they may just go on a massive strike and see where the cards fall.
Good thing she wasnāt a slave so.
And just to be clear Bezos and Ashley and their ilk are despicable cunts.
Well since SR is not gonna respond, what does he mean by this? How does racism impact this?
Genuine question.
Yeah but we are cute about it.
Iād like to see how a police strike would pan out considering they are a civil service agency that is paid through tax payer dollars. I think that tactic would be viewed by the public as confirmation that the police see themselves as autonomous and would rather refuse to work than not respond with violence against anyone who apposes them.
Also, policing has always been one of the securest jobs with one of the only functional networks of unions left in the U.S. I donāt think individual cops would want to risk losing a safe job especially during this economic crisis
Not to divert attention, but imagine if a similarly racist difference (skies vs. 3 boxes of vegetables) existed for black vs. white people:
If there was any doubt that this is very much a class issueā¦
Genuine question because I donāt know - looks to me very unworking class. In fact the participants look stridently middle class, which is why Iām assuming its so fuzzy on what it actually wants. If it was working class people I reckon theyād actually have some pretty clear demands. Iām talking about the UK here btw. I realise that wasnāt actually a question.
Effective policing is more to do with real powers rather than actual numbers.
The Met is very politicized as the force is the most visible, well funded and has the most officers in the country. For the Met under Cressida Dick, itās probably better they ran than being accused of police brutality by standing their ground in a left leaning city like London.
Not sure thatās gonna do the job lads
