“Innocent until proven guilty” rather passed everyone by here, and probably will on these other two counts as well regardless of the verdict.

Allegations like these are easy to throw around.

They are also very difficult to prove, even when a crime has been committed.

How has a crime been committed when a jury of his peers said no crime happened? If that’s your stance no one is ever innocent just not enough evidence to convict

Even if he is found not guilty on all counts, you can guarantee the terraces across the country won’t let him forget. The rapist chants will dog the rest of his football career, low hanging fruit and all that

Damn, I read this too quick and thought a dog was involved

I was talking in general when it comes to charges relating to sex crimes.

I know very little about this case.

You are right sex cases are very difficult even more so nowadays

Now cleared of all charges…

Two and a half years to his life gone… wonder how much money he lost in that time too.

It was unthinkable for many that he’d clear all charges back then but this is the other side of the coin with sexual assault and rape charges. Due process must happen but in cases like these can leave ruin in their wake

His name went through the mud and was hugely vilified, career wrecked and even those around him and at the club may have cut ties thinking he was guilty.

Some won’t have too much sympathy as he’s rich but that’s a toll on the mental if you know you’re innocent and you have to go through all of that especially in this social media age.

He did jail time over this too. What a disgrace.

Did city cancel his contract? I thought he was still on their books

Contract ended this summer I think but imagine there was some kind of provision in his contract that effectively left him without income given he was suspended

I wonder if he was being paid this entire time ?

I looked it up his contract expired in June. He was released.

He was suspended without pay since 2021

They’re gonna have to cut him a cheque

They had sufficient grounds to terminate his contract. Not sure they owe him anything.

Of course they owe him, that won’t wash legally

And no they didn’t have grounds to terminate either

Wasn’t he was charged with rape, and went to jail?

That seems a pretty good reason for a club to terminate a player’s contract.

It’s a grey area because you can understand why City stopped paying him but what now? That’s probably £10-12m he’s lost out on that’s a lot of fucking money lol

The grounds for termination would be a guilty verdict hence him being suspended without pay, that is the extent to which they could act.

Termination requires proof of guilt and that is not established until a court rules it so.
