Aston Villa

Pleased for Unai. He’s obviously a good manager for the smaller clubs. Hope he does well

Yeah I have a soft spot for Unai. Hope he does well at Villa. But nothing ever really seems to go right at that club, so I expect he’ll last 2.5 seasons max

Should work on his English this time around. Won’t be easy around the Brummies

His English is better than my Spanish.

I hope no one does that piss taking about his accent again

His english is actually really good for second language lol he’s fluent, just has an accent. Its not like he speaks broken english with an extremely limited vocabulary. His interviews during the CL run with Vilarreal are evidence of that.

Watching the All or nothing documentary, I don’t think what Arteta was speaking was english

Fair play. I also thought it wasn’t nice the way they made fun of him… especially when I read that the players were also mocking his accent and joking about it.

I wish him all the best.

Aren’t Villa reasonably well backed? It’s a decent job I thought. They can do far better than they are right now, so probably not a huge difference from Villareal but he’ll probably be getting paid way more.

Le Grove went big on that. What a prick.

Ozil went big on that. What a prick.

Completely missed this

I was so confused when I read this paragraph on Arseblog, this morning.

Finally for today, speaking of xG, Aston Villa v Arsenal, scheduled for February 18th will see Unai Emery’s new team grab a 1-0 win with an xG of 0.000000000000001 to Arsenal’s 906. As sure as eggs are eggs.

Now it makes sense. Interesting decision.

Already started ffs

So fucking tone deaf

Gotta love a bit of casual racism eh

Arsenal fans did this for ages. Yet now, on here and Twitter it’s the Arsenal fans who have a problem with it.

Not saying it’s right - it is ignorant and probably does make him feel stupid, which is silly giving that he is the only learning a new language while we all just watch on by. But it’s not meant in a malicious way. It’s affectionate if anything. Just think Arsenal fans are throwing stones in glass houses here.

He is better than Villa. Should have waited for an opportunity in Serie A or a bigger Spanish club.

I’ve had people mock my accent when speaking a foreign language in France or Germany, I must admit, I didn’t feel like anyone had been racist to me.

I don’t think I’d go as far as to say that a bit of largely gentle joking about a Spaniard sometimes pronouncings a v as a b is racist, is it?!

I live in Somerset, I mock my friends accents all the time.
I lived in Norway, my Norwegian was constantly corrected or laughed at, it made me a better Norwegian speaker.
I’m Welsh, I often have my Welsh accent mocked and taken the piss out of, even if 99% of the time they do end up speaking with an Indian accent.

That seems to be a video of him saying evening and not ebening. Have we been living a lie all this time.

Not in the slightest.

People trying too hard to be outraged as usual.
