An 18 month loan with those wages doesn’t cripple us. Not ideal to be stuck with him for 1.5 years if he isn’t the solution…but having a buy option gives us an out if we want.
At this point, we really need strengthening. Top 4 is a real possibility this season.
If the manager badly wants him then you have to back his talent ID given how well the summer went.
We don’t progress with Vlahovic bid to make sure Juventus don’t get pissed and allow Melo to come here.
then boom, Vlahovic in red & white. Suck it Juve.
watching us get peppered by pressing again as well as watching the consistent midfield tragedy that is currently represented by a red carded Party, red carded Xhaka, a Gonzo thriving at Marseille and some kids playing at mf makes think getting Barca boi over here for a loan might not be a bad idea.
This guy has press resistance as one of his redeeming qualities and he is hard to take the ball off of, good balance, lower centre of gravity than David Villa, wider stance than a cowboy and stronger hips than a wrestler, and he can be a pretty snappy short range passer as well on his day anyway.
Just don’t know if he is motivated. I just feel so many of the players we bring here on loan come here and check out mentally after a few games. idno.
Don’t worry, on the first of the month the official site will drop an interview with Eddie about how he’s excited to step up and then adidas will rerelease the 89 kits as a distraction.
But yeah, so far we look like we chased two targets and spent too much time doing it. I’m sure the club had backup targets but everyone knew we were thin when the summer window closed, to be this close to 4th with 18 (?) matches to go and not reinforce is just so disappointing.
Juventus are on a good run of form and it’s coincided with playing Arthur and Locatelli / Bentancur so it’s no surprise they don’t see a loan move for him as beneficial to them anymore
Nobody said he was shit. I said I had questions about his ability to fit in at Arsenal and step up to a higher level.
He’s a solid midfielder but he wasn’t as transformative midfield signing. I wouldn’t enjoy a midfield pivot of Locatelli and Partey for example, I’d want someone who was better with the ball than Locatelli is.
He’s also not really been particularly special at Juventus. The best midfielder he has been but he hasn’t done anything to transform their midfield because ultimately the partners he’s playing with don’t compliment his style of play and it’s forcing him to play a bit of an unfamiliar role. Allegri also uses him differently to how he was used at Sassuolo.
Sometimes transfer activity across multiple transfers is all connected. Probably someone has mentioned this already but it doesn’t help that Vlahovic is in the middle of a battle between Arsenal and Juventus interested in him. It is quite possible straight up cash for Melo that Juventus wants is to help with them getting Vlahovic, which in turn would make us think twice about cooperating with Juventus over Melo. If there are complications with all of this then of course we would want to secure Vlahovic first, or at least exhaust all options in pursuing him.
