We can outspend Liverpool and Spurs. So 4th is what we should achieve.
Lose Sanchez and get Fornals and Henry as his replacements. That makes perfect sense tbh.
Both have spent more on transfers in the last 4 years
I can’t believe I have to read this thread for another two years.
Just because the people in charge are reluctant to spend, it doesn’t mean we can’t outspend them. Stop acting like we’re Everton. Our wage bill is also much higher than both clubs.
Not only have we to deal with Wenger for another two years, but these bullshit excuses remain too. Bet Wenger doesn’t care with his 8 million per year.
On one front, it’s kinda funny when you think how much money some fans spent on all those protests in the last few months. Banners, planes. All totally for nothing.
The worry is though, things got rather toxic this season. What is earth is the next two years going to be like, is anyone going to even have the energy to carry on doing more protests?
Kroenke surprised me this last year with what he did with the rams. They had a terrible underachieving coach which they gave an extension to. He had such a terrible season that fired him halfway through the season. So where Kroenke is patient, he also does take action eventually. However, Arsene finished 5th and won the FA Cup which isn’t a bad season really. Arsene would really have to fuck up to get the boot.
Well, that is depressing if true.
The best thing would obviously be to resign both Sanchez and Ozil in the next few weeks.
But if Sanchez is intent on leaving and Ozil won’t sign a new deal this summer either then I’d rather just sell both of them, buy as much top young talent as possible, and lay a foundation for the next manager. Buy Schick, Dolberg, Lemar, and Fornals (or similar) and let them play in some combination as the three ahead of Ox-Xhaka-Ramsey-Bellerin in the 3-4-3. We’d almost certainly finish out of the CL spots again but at least we’d be young and exciting and could potentially be creating a team for the future that could compete with the best.
The worst case scenario - which I fear is going to happen - is that we spend all June and July trying to sign Sanchez and Ozil, miss out on the best young attacking talents during that time, and then end up being forced to sell Sanchez anyway after he essentially forces his way out. So we go into next year with much the same team minus our best player. That is a recipe for a shitty season.
It’s not surprising tbh, what does winning the FA cup really do in the Sanchez situation? From his view once the euphoria has dissipated it’s a bit been there and done that.
I’m not quite getting why some believe it’s a given he’ll stay on now, this club needs a total revamp from top to bottom and Sanchez is soon to be 29. The revamp will not happen under Wenger and even if it did couple that with a year out of the CL? He doesn’t have time for that shit, these are his peak years.
Can’t blame him for wanting to bounce at all, I’d be chuffed if he signs but I’ve resigned to him leaving whether in the summer or on a free.
Nah, we don’t need a total revamp. Now that Wenger is confirmed to stay that should settle things down at the club. I buy that the club was probably in disarray waiting to find out if Wenger would be returning or not. If Xhaka kicks on from here, Holding and Ramsey stay in form, and we add a couple top quality signings as Arsene said he wants to do… we have an amazing team. We just destroyed Chelsea one of the best all time teams the PL has ever seen.
Settle down what? Wait for the dust of mediocrity to settle?
If, if , if the same shit is peddled about every damn year and it always ends the same way. I’m not sure why it’ll be any different next season, Sanchez hasn’t signed on and neither has Özil. Adding quality signings won’t win us the league, there are serious issues that will rear their ugly head again and again as long as Wenger remains at the helm. We’ll be closer to finishing outside of the top for next season than winning it, book it.
It was a great FA cup win but Chelsea were woeful, they didn’t play anywhere near their best.
They’ve also sold players for profit instead of letting everyone run down their contract on loan. Also buying actual starters or players with potential instead of spending too much money on squad players at best would be nice.
Nah, sometimes we do get lucky in that regard against the top teams but we punched Chelsea in the mouth. They tried to play but we stiffled the fuck out of them and dominated. We’ll be seeing more of this next year.
Couldn’t publish this article a week ago?
Not saying it isn’t true, as I can’t prove anything, but the timing is suspicious; like all Arsenal articles.
Can’t see Wenger signing on for 2 years with prospect of Alexis and Ozil not signing on too.
Called it then, a Wenger contract renewal does nothing for the likelihood of Sanchez/Ozil staying and in the case of the former, appears more likely to push him more quickly out the exit door.
A few hugs on the training pitch and after the Fa Cup final doesn’t have to translate to a bosom buddy relationship
All strawman attempts to distract from your failed point that we spent more than Liverpool/Spurs, which we did not. By your own logic we should finish 6th. And ofcourse before that our net spend was sub zero for over a decade, running down our squad long term.
Liverpool has also generally had a wage bill close to ours over the years, despite not having a CL football schedule with.
Matt Hughes is the same guy who wrote in the Times about a £25M move for Arda Turan ffs. Not reliable as others
You’ll struggle to sell players for profit after having a net profit on players for over a decade. Those teams invested while we ran on empty. No wonder we couldn’t sell on the dross as a result.
Well, isn’t the idea of having a net profit actually spending money on players that can eventually be moved on for more.
That’s mostly wages though that make them unmovable. We’ve been loaning out senior players for years now because we can’t sell them for any decent money. Why we still keep adding squad players at best (Gabriel, ElNeny or Lucas Perez) to the team is the next question and they’ll be moved on for nothing in a couple of years time.
If Wenger had left they would have written the opposite. I am sure of it :hipster:
