Arsène Wenger

They are easying(?) us in the decision to extend him. Step by step.

This is what he said:

“I’ve been here 20 years and many times had opportunity to leave. I don’t have to convince you my preference has always been Arsenal… but I am objective enough to make the right decision for myself and the club itself. The club can also make their decision if it wants and I will respect that.”

And on the Barcelona job: “No my preference [staying at Arsenal] is always the same, it will remain the same. I am not looking for jobs of other clubs or jobs of other people.”

And when asked about China, he said: “This press conference is about the Liverpool game. Not about my future or what I turned down or did not turn down.”

Old interview from around october last year. Henry asks him about 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 around the 2:30 minute mark. Wenger says he changed, because of control of the midfield (in Europe), and the personnel changed. It’s ironic that he changed the system for more midfield control, while quite the opposite has occurred from the start of using that system (09/10). Our pivot is more often than not exposed and our midfield is so often overrun, especially in high profile games, and Ozil plays a semi-second striker roll like Bergkamp (no Bergkamp one of the reasons he changed). Whilst in that old system we did have control.

It pretty much confirms why I want Wenger gone. He obviously still has the right ideas about football, but he just can’t execute it anymore. Ideas are good to have, but when execution fails it really doesn’t matter.

Won’t be after this weeks game when Liverpool batter us. They will announce it when we beat a few easy beats in a row.

It could go the other way.
If Liverpool beat us and we play badly, then it will mean in the following games against West Brom, Man City and West Ham we will have to get at least seven points, if we don’t then fourth place will be extremely difficult.
So if he is waiting until after the Liverpool result to announce a new contract, he’d better hope we beat them because the following games aren’t easy.

It will be interesting to see what Wenger will decide if we don’t get a CL place, and spurs finish a few places above us, which is what I think could easily happen.

We simply have to beat Liverpool, we can’t keep relying on the other top clubs to slip up.
Our last four games are the hardest of any of the top clubs.
We have spurs, Man U, Stoke and Everton, and I can’t see how we are going to get a top four place unless the break we have had has given Wenger time to sort us out.

Get in…:wenger:

We knew he would turn down China, but the subtle shift in language is interesting. :grimacing:

Keyboards around the world are getting worried

It often is a 4-4-2, Ozil for the most part isn’t playing as a midfielder or winning the ball and is often the furtherest up the pitch. But then again with Alexis positioning we often have no one in the box during attacks. For the 4-2-3-1 to work you really need a no10 who drops deeper and presses aggressively.

alexis as a 10 would be godlike.

Wenger looks like he’s about to drop the sickest mixtape of 2017

Only because someone photoshopped his head onto Stormzy

So from what he has said, he’s not looking to retire and believes he has years of management left. Arsenal is also his no 1 preference so I think we can expect this deal he’s about to sign won’t even be his last one with the club.

They are notable differences though. In this 4-2-3-1 the wingers are further pushed up on the pitch and players like Pires and Hleb were earlier involved in the build.

In that 4-4-2 we were also harder to beat (better organised), we lost only 6 games in 08/09 f.e., the thing Wenger tried to achieve by this changed, going off that interview, are not achieved at all. Quite the contrary. Our midfield is non-existent nowadays.

I think @JakeyBoy gave you the benefit of the doubt here. He decided you hadn’t actually recognized that rather than assuming you’d made one of the worst “jokes” in the history of mankind. :grinning:

Lol seen someone Photoshop it on Twitter and thought it was funny tbf

The mixtape meme is based on an ordinary photo of someone or something that happens to look like it could be a mixtape or album cover, that’s where the humour derives from.

Sorry to start deconstructing your post @Calum haha, so unnecessary

e.g.

We look like a disorganised rabble at times on the pitch SD.
If you watch our game you see we are so predictable.
We win ball in or around our area and our wingbacks just set off down either wing. We lose ball and our wing backs are isolated and it usually leads to one of our centres going wide to cover which leaves our centre exposed. Montreal is usually the wingback left scratching his head on the halfway line.
Add to this knobjockey Wengers idea of playing the ox alongside Le coq and you see where our problems begin.
The ox is not defensively minded and is caught out of position too often. He thinks defending means chasing round like an headless chicken.
The ox and Santi are great ball players and attack minded players, but you really neede defensive minded players when you play our system.
Remember petit and Patrick? They had to be reminded that they also had to defensive duties. But we had big Tony then and he u ssually sorted things out. now We have dummies and a clueless coach.
We really would be mid-table if it wasn’t for the pure class we have in certain areas of our team.If Sanchez goes we have big big problems.

If you read well his quotes, you can clearly see he is thinking about leaving.

““Of course, I am objective and lucid enough to make the right decision for myself and the club, as well.”
