Arsène Wenger

Went several seasons being midtable though and got sacked for it

As any manager should.

Only if the club by nature is not midtable. You won’t sack Moyes for ending up midtable with Everton

Yeah a top club should not accept a manager not winning anything for the best part of a decade.

I agree

Please use some common sense, why on earth would Wenger want to tip his hand to other clubs around the world we had to do business with? Do you go to buy/sell anything there’s a negotiable price on and let the other party know how much u can or can’t spend? It’s a game that has to be played, im sure if you could have had a sit down with Arsene hed have told u the truth about our finances but u don’t fucking say that publicly please get a grip :joy::joy::joy:

And as for Arsene staying, I’ll answer that question with a question of my own. Why don’t you go support City since Arsenal are a mid table club these days? You won’t because u love the club and have an affinity for it. Arsene is a good man and a lover of the club he’d never have abandoned us especially in the time we needed him most, in fact he probably loves the club more than most of the clubs fans because the man poured his heart and soul into this club and worked his fingers to the bone to try and bring all you unthankful bastards some happiness and a sense of success.

True but Liverpool had a golden youth generation and when they got to that second final were spending way more than us in the transfer market.

Arsenal 05/06 CL team > Liverpool 05/06

We just didn’t have the good luck of our opponents getting drunk at half time and had the missfortune of that sending off.

Not only that, imagine how further depressed Cesc & Persie will be when Wenger decides to be honest with fans
“Listen Arsenal fans, we are broke. we can’t afford shit. we can’t afford to bring world class players, or class players. We can’t afford to pay big wages.”

But it’s fine that players are left hopeless as long as @InvincibleDB10 get to know the truth.

And how many years can you play this card do you think before the whole football world realise this is the case?
Jesus christ lads. Come on now.

It doesn’t matter nobody can be sure what the reality was. It was a fucked up situation we had to navigate from 07 to 13, and we did so and stayed top 4 and came out of it being able to spend big money on guys like Özil and Sanchez. Sorry you can’t see the forest through the trees but Wenger saved this clubs ass :joy::joy:

Everyone knew though. It’s another thing to outright admit it.
You think the club can afford to risk season ticket renewal by outright admitting that we will continue one more season selling one of our best players.

Everyone knows their was limits on money but nowhere as little as is made out.
Clear as day that bad choices were made all round in this period by all involved.

Yet everyone assumes it was Wenger choosing not to spend when board members say otherwise

In his last season Wenger wanted Mbappe. If David Dein was in control of finances we get Mbappe and go up several levels

Not sure what the hell were even arguing here, there is no disputing that Arsenal pre Wenger were one of the top English clubs. It’s common footballing knowledge that the three biggest clubs in England have always been Liverpool, Utd and the Arsenal. It’s fair to argue that Wenger helped us maintain that status and added to our illustrious history, but it’s ridiculous to argue that Arsenal were a mid table team that was brought of mediocrity by Wenger. In the ten years prior to Wenger (1986-96) we won 6 trophies, including 2 league titles and European cup. When Wenger Arrived we last won the league 6/7 years prior, when Wenger left we hadn’t won’t it in 14! A huge part of our demise is because of Wenger. He’s our greatest manager sure, and he deserves all the plaudits for his success and improvements he brought, but he’s also responsible for all the failures during his tenure as well.

If anything, the Wenger fanatics have done more harm to Arsène’s legacy by constantly dragging him into every debate.

Makes you actually look back and think fuck, how many title challenges did we bottle? How many times were we just a player or two away from being the best? Or being reminded of those awful European performances? All those horrific defeats to our top 4 rivals and his abysmal away record at those grounds?

Just let sleeping dogs lie ffs. He’s a legend in my eyes and I was loyal to him for so long, but these silly debates only serve to highlight his shortcomings, not his successes.

Only in recent times. Historically the league didn’t have big teams and small teams. This only started to happen in the Premier League era where there became a wealth disparity. The league was balanced. Anyone could win it. Both Leeds and Blackburn got promoted in the 90s and won within a couple of seasons. Huddersfield won several league titles in the early 1900s IIRC. There are a lower leage side for a long time and will never win title ever again. In fact none of those things would happen today.

There simply weren’t big teams and small times pre Sky TV when most of the money were fans. I mean not at least in terms of gate generated funds

The disagreement is whether it’s the board or Wenger’s fault

We believe got lemons and made lemonade
