Didn’t even apply for this one :frowning: was away and missed the ballot but would’ve had no chance anyway probably.

Yeah, and it was Vieira who got robbed in midfield by Pires to set up Fabregas for the opener.

Just realized we have conceded only 6 goals in Champions league compared to 17 by Madrid.

Excited and nervous

I still can’t believe we were went toe to toe with that squad.

Flamini at LB
Senderos at CB

Djourou, Walcott, Song, Eboue.

How on earth did RM struggle to score against this lot I have no idea :joy:.

Either Wenger was a genius or these guys were a lot better than I give them credit for.

Or perhaps it’s both..

We had one of the meanest backlines in the competition that season whereas they had an ageing team with many nearing the end.

We were rock solid in Europe that year in part due to Wenger adopting a more pragmatic approach. He loaded the midfield a lot and we just had Lehmann there as probably the best goalkeeper in the world for that one season.

That Real Madrid squad was also shit. The defence was dogshit, the midfield was imbalanced and the strike force contained a way past it and overweight R9.

Wish this had the replay from the other angle that shows Lehmann tipping the rebound away. You can’t really see what a great save the second one is here.

Real has by far more quality in their squad so of course they are the favourites, but finally I feel like we have a manager with Arteta and his dark arts-methodes, who actually gives Arsenal a decent chance to do something. With Wenger and Emery at the helm I completely lost that feeling.

Ain’t that a bit unfair on Emery? His European record is incredible.

Obviously his European record with other clubs is excellent. But when he was here I still didn’t have the same feeling at all.

Prediction: 2-0 (Kiwior, Martinelli).

Vicious win.

I was at that one. Of all the matches I’ve seen live, this is one of the ones I remember most fondly, even above some of the FA Cup finals I’ve been to.

Probably tied with the 04/05 FA Cup Final for my favourite ever (in person) 0-0

I honestly wouldn’t put it past him to find a way to get Villa to the final.
