Penalty or not penalty…Saka leaves his leg in, but unsure if he could have gone round Neuer and took a shot? Difficult to tell when the player is running at full pace.
The thing for me that bothers me, is that in the majority of those cases, a penalty is given. There needs to be greater consistency in decisions from the refs and then fans would accept decisions more.
The other thing that really bothered us in the stadium tonight, is why the ref didn’t review the penalty on the screen. Surely he should have reviewed this before ending the match?

I wonder how long Arteta is comfortable playing Tomiyasu at this point.
He has only three sub appearances each around 20 minutes since coming back.
If we could get even just 55-60 minutes from him, I’d be very tempted to start him in the second leg.
This whole discussion underlines why Timber is the real answer in the longer term though.

He must not be ready to play any significant amount of time which is really disappointing. It’s easy to pick on Kiwior because of his performance tonight against Sane but you’d have to imagine we look more secure at the back with Tomiyasu on that side.

It’s anyones tie in the 2nd leg, away goals mean nothing so it’s basically as you were. I thought we’d win tonight but we were too sloppy and it cost us, tie still well and truly in the balance though.
BTW my feeling is that pen is given about 8 outta 10 times, when a keeper is out like that and makes no contact with the ball and a coming together happens that impedes the attacker having any further play on the ball, the keeper can consider himself fortunate.

I don’t really see the question as being particularly relevant because the ref was in a good position and was pretty certain in real time that it wasn’t a penalty, and I think he made the right call.
But no, VAR probably wouldn’t have overturned it had the ref given it, cos it probably wouldn’t have met their stupid threshold for a clear and obvious error by the ref, but so what? VAR being flawed and not overturning some wrong decisions because they aren’t “clear and obvious” enough doesn’t have any bearing on my judgement as to whether or not this was a penalty.
I love her. She took them all and she is absolutely right.
Penalty and a great chance to score a goal shouldn’t come so easily. There should be some common sense.
If there’s a refereeing decision for us to complain about last night, it’s definitely Kane not seeing red for a blatantly intentional elbow.

I see this morning that Saka is the villain whilst Kane the dirty cunt is still the media darling.

Woken up still really annoyed by that game. Taking all the ref decisions out of account I’m still twitching at the 2 goals we conceded.
The whole dynamics of chasing the game played into their hands. It leads for a very nervy second leg next week.
