Arsenal transfers 25/26

Arsenal strategy on the year they could have got back into the CL

I doubt it.

It makes me laugh how everyone seems to say we have improved, and how the summer window was so great.

But if this is true then we have made no improvement whatsoever after spending that money.

Some process

Meh. People who want to see progress or give Arteta a break would point to excuses like signing six guys and bedding them in after effectively throwing the first three matches. I’m not saying I buy it but I see that excuse a lot.

What’s the point in mentioning the cups? We’ve played as many games as it’s possible to play in both of those cups.

Yeah, cups aren’t relevant to his point. Europe is, but cups aren’t. But it doesn’t undermine the point he’s making imo, even if it adds nothing to it.

To play devil’s adovcate, maybe he’s angling for the point that you could sacrifice the league to advance in a cup… or do it and fail, like putting Thomas Party on in a cup game while he still smells like airport AC and then he gets a red card and we go out anyway and then we end up drawing Burnley with a weaker team?

It’s a stupid point fundamentally though, as claims about corresponding fixtures tend to be.

We’ve played 21 matches and have 36 points, whereas last year we had 28 points after 21 matches. The strength of the two schedules isnt going to be meaningfully different given each represnts half a year plus two matches.

I doubt if we reached the League cup final having beat Liverpool the cups would become a major factor.
At the very least something being used as a sign of progress. Can’t be totally dismissed tbh.

Fundamentally stupid is too harsh a way of putting it when what you’ve done is change the parameters to something that’s less of a like for like comparison because it serves your outlook better to try to highlight progress.

Well earned.

I actually like this super cleansing of the squad.

OK it’s not ideal to have such a small squad right now but we just have to accept Top 4 isn’t on anymore this season. In return we’ve trimmed all the shitters to have a brilliant squad next season with some top signings - without worrying having to ditch players.

Clubs be well aware now of Saka situation and be sounding out his agent soon.

What is the value of comparing the results in corresponding fixtures rather than the actual results through 21 matches, given that we’ve clearly not played a particularly easy portion of the schedule or anything like that?

I’m trying to change the parameters because the original ones are silly and just serving as an artificial stick to beat the club with.

Do you think Luiz or Toney would make the switch?

We signed all those shitters because we became a less attractive club to better players that were available in the market.

Now that we’re even less attractive than before who’s to say we won’t be forced to sign even shittier shitters?

Because its closer to like for like. If you compare corresponding fixtures you’re comparing, for example, how we did at Wolves away in one season versus how we did there in another season. If you don’t compare like for like, and just take half of a season from two different seasons and compare them, you may be comparing quite different fixtures, like Wolves away and Wolves at home, two matches that we’d have quite different expectations for.

I’m not saying the like for like comparison is perfect, that it doesn’t have shortcomings, just that its too strong to label it stupid fundamentally" when instead you want to compare 21 matches from one season versus 21 from another, despite the fact that you’d have a completely different set of home and away fixtures against various clubs in each of those samples, and that you have two extra games in the mix too that won’t necessarily have been played against the same sides. The comparison you have offered up isn’t obviously better than the one you totally dismissed.

Imagine going from Wright, Anelka, Henry, RVP, Aubameyang, etc, to Toney as our starting striker.
Or from Vieira, Petit, Gilberto, Cesc, to Douglas Luiz in midfield.

What kind of second rate club have we’ve become when we’re being linked to this level of player?

Can’t understand the fixation with Toney? What does he offer and what attributes of his stand out?

We’ve been in a slow decline for 15yrs now. Even the RVP/Cesc years were a step down from the previous generation of Henry/Bergkamp.

The Giroud/Santi years were also a step down from the RVP/Cesc years.

Now we’re in full shit mode as the Xhaka generation is being phased out.

Why are we not an attractive club to join?
