There is a school of thought doing the rounds that there will be a shit storm of activity towards the close of the window.
I can see that happening tbf - it’s not just Arsenal who have lots of players who need to be fucked off. Chelsea still have guys like Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Alonso, Bakayoko, Barkley, RLC and Batshuayi hanging around.
There will be a lot of pressure felt by a lot of clubs to sell at reduced prices, which then gets the dominos falling. Loads of clubs trying to scrounge funds in Europe.
It will completely fuck the beginning of our season up, but I think a lot of clubs are waiting to see who blinks first. Desperation will come in sooner or later.

If we can’t get Martinez or Vlahovic, or get rid of Lacazette, I’d prefer to leave it rather than go for yet another Chelsea reject.

That may be true but if we end this window spending 2.3 Ramsdales on Aaron Ramsdale and Tammy Abraham I think it’s been an absolute disaster.
I don’t even know what Tammy Abraham is great at. He seems to be an all-arounder who works hard which makes him an ideal player for Arteta’s slopball system but I don’t want him anywhere near the club.

Fair question. The club were pretty clear that Arteta is the manager and not just the coach. To me that means he’s got more input on transfers. We were led to believe that Arteta was influential in Xhaka not going to Berlin, Willian signing on a free, Aubameyang signing an extension, Holding not going to Newcastle and Nelson not going on loan.
That means Arteta has to share some of the blame if we cap the window with Ramsdale and Tammy Abraham. That’s a failure in terms of talent level and in terms of money spent.
I blame Edu more with the outgoings. Arteta isn’t the one negotiating with Roma, that’s Edu and Dick Garlick, right?
I do blame Arteta for dumb shit like the Xhaka extension. No way the club do that without him pushing for it.

Arteta’s just another yes man. I can almost guarantee if someone like Conte was in charge they’d be pushing for transfers to be done ASAP. Instead of being linked with players and there being no follow up at all.

I agree he could well be a yes man as it’s certainly playing out that way.
I doubt KSE would ever give the clear to appoint someone like Conte for that particular reason.

But the only thing we definitely know about the Kroenkes is that they prefer to turn their clubs over to other people. That’s why I could see them appointing someone like Conte (not Conte himself) who would try to wear several hats at once. It would let the Kroenkes be hands off and create a single point of failure where they could just fire that one person if necessary.

I think Arteta, fair enough if they felt Roma was low balling them but in what world does a new contract make sense for Xhaka when he already has a few years left on his? There was absolutely no reason for the extension. For me this is the exact kind of thing that highlights the problem with Arteta.
I’m still going to wait until the end of the window before I make any kind of judgement, however it currently doesn’t look good for us. The “we tried narrative” won’t cut it with fans anymore, Wenger rinsed that excuse already half a decade ago.
