He has a big following and some others (including Arseblog) had turned it down.
Heās a good lad?
The guy who runs Arseblog (Andrewā¦?) is his own boss. Heās probably got a really decent income from running all of that stuff (website, news aggregator thing, podcast, patreon etc). Really no incentive to start working for somebody else when youāre so established.
I enjoy the Arsecast Extra podcast, particularly after a shitty result. Gunnerblog (James something) actually offers decent insight and says sensible stuff on that. His voice is really annoying though, especially the way he āerrrrsā an absolute fuck tonne. But I just completely switch off whenever he talks about āhis understandingā of a rumour or link to a player. Literally says nothing at all of any substance, just vague rubbish.
Who were the others who turned The Athletic down btw?
Iāve heard Stillman say it and there was someone else that I canāt remember. I donāt have any insight, just repeating things I heard and putting 2+2 together.
Arseblog basically said all that you have there around the time they launched.
The Arseblog/Gunnerblog axis of light hearted banter is great imo. I find myself being aligned to ABās side more, as heās more cynical/realistic and GB is waay more positive in his thinking and thoughts on Arsenal related matters. A bit too positive for me most of the time but itās great as a lift after shit gets messy with the club.
āListenā¦ā
Itās nice to have opposing view points though and I can forgive James having to go overboard in his pieces given he works for The Athletic.
Yeah the Athletic wanted to buy the Arseblog brand out. Heād still run things, but he would be an employee. He more or less said fuck off, lol. He spoke about it on his podcast a while ago. If he has a decent income and enjoys what he does he has no reason to sell up.
This is the perfect summary of Gunnerblog for me. Sometimes I quite enjoy him on the Arsecast, and others my eyes are just rolling out of their sockets.
Heās actually enjoyable and fine to listen to on the arsecast, but all these athletic bods can fuck off. Includes Ornstein here as well, guy is not the same since switching from BBC.
Pretending to be a reputable source like they are in the US, when all they do is act as mouthpieces for the clubās they cover in exchange for access.
Tragic.

Just give me the DOF job why donāt you ;).
I donāt like the player but Iāve seen other outlets suggest Mari is on 50k a week, really interested to find out what the truth is.
I think Edu and Arteta were sure to start a major overhaul at the club after the disappontment campaign. Also sure about the money made available by Kroenkes. Targets were a backup LB, a partner for Partey, a 2nd GK, replacements for Ceballos and Luiz, an AM and a new RB.
Tavares, Lokonga and Ben White have been signed, fullyfing the first three positions. For the rest, having so much players currently at the club, had to wait to sell players before signing new ones.
Butā¦
Arsenal spend over Ā£40m p/y for the contracts of Runarsson, Kolasinac, Cedric, Torreira, Elneny, Maitland-Niles, Nelson, Willian, Lacazette and Nketiah. Itās so difficult to sell average players with huge salaries. They were sure to collect some funds but now looks unlikely.
They are struggling to sell and consequentially canāt sign who they want. Thatās why are preferring to keep Bellerin and Xhaka at the club and priorities other roles like AM and a 2nd GK to start a competition with Leno.
Summary:
backup LB: Nuno Tavares
partner for Partey: Xhaka stays
2nd goalkeeper
Ceballos replacement: Sambi Lokonga
David Luiz replacement: Ben White
Advanced midfielder
new RB: Hector Bellerin stays
100% convinced Arsenal will splash the cash for the GK and AM.
Each to their own but Iām giving crosses for Xhaka staying at the Partey partner and a cross for Bellerin staying as the 1st choice RB.
I think we will do more business and with the Willock sale, I think we may have some further outgoings over the next two weeks with the window hotting up and more transfer activity taking place.
In addition to Willock, I think Kolasinac, Nketiah, Nelson and Torreira will all be sold (Kolasinac may be a free transfer given his wages). I think Willian may be too difficult, but it is clear from all the reports that Arsenal want him gone and the player wants to leave.
I still think we will sign a CAM, CM and a GK.
The situation with Auba concerns me right now, there is no sign of him coming out of his funk and Arteta is making things worse playing him out wide. We badly need an AM to freshen up chance creation and really need to freshen things up for CF also, but that isnāt happening unless Laca can be shifted.
Kind of pulled back on comments the last couple of days because Iām livid with how things have gone so far this summer and the club had better do what it can with one or two additions before the window closes, even though that wonāt be anywhere near enough.
Arsenal are in full on Barry Glazer mode rn. Theyāre just pissing on the supporters and telling them itās raining.
Probably but I donāt think many of these deals will favour us. Most likely loans where we are paying a portion of the wage. It will clear squad space at least.
I think the Willock offer has been on the table all summer but he wasnāt on top of the outgoings list, none of the offers for the other guys have satisfied us so weāve pulled the trigger on Willock (happy with the deal personally, 25m for a player I donāt think will ever start for a top 4/CL club).
My worry now is that the 25m from Willock gets us over the edge for Maddison and we spunk 70m on him.
Used the only why Xhaka and Bellerin have been reintegrated.
Have to agree. Heās a good player but, again, that is a staggering amount of money.
All the stuff over Tammy Abraham today is a bit weird because we still need to find a taker for Laca first anyway. Would only consider going down the Tammy Abraham path if Lautaro Martinez and Dusan Vlahovic are not possible.
Waking up to 2 new posts in this thread 3 weeks out from the window closing when you need 3-4 quality signings isnāt a good thing.
