Odegaard has by far the highest ceiling of any of those three players. No-brainer.

Yep… needed to do it a year or two earlier probs.
I like Ode and we definitely need someone more creative and who can move around in tighter spaces, but I have a hard time not looking at Buendia’s insane productivity and picking him, which I did.

Ødegaard has shown glimpses of his ceiling (West Ham away in particular) and he was basically unstoppable that day. Technically speaking, he’s the best in the squad. I’d probably go for him in the hope he really settles and plays to that level more consistently. But there have been a fair few games where his impact on the game was minimal. So he’s not a guaranteed success at all.
Aouar is an unknown and his stock has fallen in the last 12 months. When we have a known quantity on the table, there’s no point gambling on somebody like this to come good.
Buendia’s stats are incredible and he could be an output machine. It’s another gamble to spend that much on somebody when you aren’t sure they will transfer it to a more pressurised and higher stakes environment. I’d also be disappointed if we spent that much money on a player whose domination has come in the second tier of English football.

Bissouma might be a really good replacement for Wijnaldum. Not as tactically smart or as strong technically, but I think Klopp could mould him into his setup.
He really does strike me as a Liverpool / Klopp type purchase actually. We are trying to play a different kind of game where the technical requirements are very high. You’d never see Pep try and build a Partey / Bissouma midfield, and Arteta is trying to mimic that style of play.
Would be a strange purchase if we went and got Bissouma. He’s a player with some good qualities but they aren’t the ones we’re looking for.

It’s quite logical actually. Clubs aren’t afraid of alternative options to leak. It’s the #1 name that they usually try to keep secret. Sometimes #2 as well.
It puts pressure on the top targets and their clubs so that they know the interested parties can look elsewhere.
Plus, it keeps football coverage alive. Everybody loves transfer news, the clubs are well aware of that.

Usually the top targets are better than the alternatives so surely we’re interested in someone better than Bissouma?
