Tbh it’s never been that good in all the years I’ve been following the game. Goes for most clubs really and not really sure how it ever can.
This midfield is in tatters right now until we at least secure Ceballos and commit to a creative midfielder (if we’re going internal due to funds or w/e it surely has to be either Willian, Mkhitaryan or Özil) or a Xhaka upgrade/alternative like Partey.
No way does getting rid of dross mean more than addressing that.
Yeah gotta keep our cards close to our chest lest other clubs take advantage of the information
We need funds to build a team. Hector can go for 20m doesn’t have to be anything crazy. There won’t be a real drop off from Hector to AMN playing RB. In fact we’d probably improve but that’s up for debate. We just need to sell some players because our midfield is atrocious.
Has the noise around the sale of AMN gone away?
Yes cuz we rejected a bid and Wolves supposedly moved on.
Not sure if this is the right place for this but a very interesting video by statman Dave about how could be setup next with current and additional players that have been linked to us. Answers some questions about how some of the linked players would fit in with Artetas system worth a watch if anyone got the time.

Ceballos as the holding midfielder with Xhaka ahead
I won’t link the video as it’s that negative prick Lee(from AFTV) who got the interview with Fabrizio(have no idea how he managed that).
Time for Aouar to get a thread?
Is he still with AFTV?
I noticed they haven’t featured him for the final matches of the season.
I thought they did that on purpose because of his negativity.
Interestingly, AFTV actually became watchable and wholesome again. Arteta truly is a magician. That is, as long as he keeps doing good. That’s when they become toxic af.
Feels like we’re slowly rumbling towards a shit transfer window.
It’s very very quiet on any big ins or any big outs. (Gabriel excluded).
Yup.
Our financial situation was shit pre-corona, but it’s even worse now after corona. Surprised we’ve even managed to sign a player for over 20 million AND agreed Auba’s new contract.
Our outgoings will be loans with option to buy, those who only have a year left on their contract will walk away for free. Our transfer sales have been shocking for years. It’s something I hope Arteta and Edu will improve on in the future. Diabolical stuff.
Arsenal have acquired or extended seven players for the new (projected) starting Arsenal (Leno, Gabriel, Saliba, Bellerin, Tierney, Pepe and Aubameyang) in the current and past two summers. Of course our midfield is still shit, but stuff is happening. We have to wait and see how it will all pan out (how good is Arteta mostly), but there is actual change happening…bit early to say that it is all so shit.
We really need to sort the CM situation out. It was previously heavily reliant on Ceballos - I don’t want to imagine how dire it is going to be without him.
Couldn’t care less about the other positions right about now. A shit midfield just completely kills the team.
That is the absolute bare minimum we should be doing.
The facts are our best player still hasn’t signed a new contract and our biggest signing is a player Chelsea didn’t need anymore.
We’re sitting in mid table and have the worst defence and midfield most of us have seen so unless there is some drastic movement, both in and out of the club, this could turn into one of the worst transfer windows we’ve had.
Bare minimum? The point I was trying to make is that actually, gradually, a lot has been changing and people haven’t noticed it. We don’t where this team stands. Last season we finished 8th, that doesn’t mean Arteta can’t get more out of this squad.
Well we are supposedly playing this football because our midfield is shit and currently it’s worse than it was last season, so it’s hard to get excited about other things.
The problem is we have been doing things gradually since we moved to the Emirates and now we find ourselves in mid table.
The lack of urgency at this club is astonishing.
This window has seen hardly any movement, in or out, and the fact we’re celebrating a few players extending their contracts illustrates how far the level of expectation and ambition has gone down.
We might see a CB coming in but I doubt if we’ll see much more in the way of the top quality we are so desperate for, apart from Willian, and maybe that’s the reason Aubameyang has yet to sign a new contract.
We find ourselves mid table because Unai fucking Emery is a useless prick. Let wait and see what Arteta is going to do first before doom and glooming about what for mid table club Arsenal have become.
