Obviously there won’t be big signings in January now but how confident are you in us and Arteta getting full backing in summer. There’s a hell of a lot to be done here.

Genuine question. It looks as if Arteta scuppered the deal for Xhaka to leave, that’s a form of backing right?
We won’t get enough backing, but we are spending more (net) that everyone bar the Manchester clubs in the last 7+ years combined… what we really need is somehow to get rid of deadweight, get some funds and free up some wages there, then combine that with our standard resources and just completely start over… we have a decent foundation forming of a younger core, but players like Moose, Ozil, our loanees, Chambers (?), and imho Xhaka need to be shipped if at all possible.
Reality is, we aren’t actually that far from 4th and are basically in the same mix as the rest of the crap league for 5th/6th while being on a colossal low.
We have Saliba coming in… get Upa, get a top CM, somehow hold onto Auba, maybe even sell Laca to rebuild… we have a long way to go to be challenging for titles, but we aren’t far off CL again.
I just see cheap on Xhaka tbh. My fear is he’s been given the job on a budget and youngsters to develop.
Hence my cynical opinion of why they sought him out.

We need about four or five top quality players, which we won’t get in the same window but if we get a top CB to partner Saliba, who is unproven at this level, and a decent replacement for Xhaka, as well as a couple of young potentially good players, that is about as much as we can expect.
There is too much to do in one window and, apart from lack of defensive quality, we need our defence coached to a level where we aren’t letting in goals every game.
The only other players we will need is if someone like Aubameyang leaves, then we will have to replace him .
We are in a proper mess but it’s taken quite a few seasons of neglect, poor transfers and lack of urgency to get to the state we’re in.
So it’s going to take a lot more than the next transfer window to sort it out and that’s assuming Arteta is up to the job, which is also debatable.

I tried to Photoshop Martinelli into literally a golden boy but it doesn’t look as well in a small frame. It took me 12 minutes to Photoshop that so now I can’t be arsed to change it.
